Re: Budget 3d printer ?

So why would bostik care about a extrusion device that uses the same mechanical principles as most of the other extruders?

Why did 3D Systems jump on Formlabs ?

3D systems filed suit against Formlabs for patent infringement on claims 1 and 23 of this patent --> http://www.google.com/patents?id=ZAIaAA … mp;f=false

Here is the suit --> http://www.scribd.com/doc/113999366/3D- … labs-et-al

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

Interesting.

9

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

okay now I agree with the ban

The FDM patents that solidoodle and repraps operate under have expired.

10

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

The millions spent developing the concept of FDM was protected by patent, which has since expired, except for temperature controlled build chambers and cartridge loaded filament.  If printer makers like Solidoodle were vulnerable to patent lawsuit, then Stratasys could go after 3D Systems for its Cube which would be a much better target than a small upstart.

Which traditional equipment are you preferring?  $5k+ CNC?  Vacuforming clay scuptures?  Hand carving a silicone molds?  Is your table saw and drill press prettier than a Solidoodle?  Do you mean traditional 3D printers ($20K and up)?   Why are you even posting in a forum for a low cost 3D printer if you think low cost 3D printing sucks?

Having said that, it is beyond me why anyone would buy a solidoodle anyway. They look really awful and produce awful 'things'.

I would opt for traditional equipment any day.

Nice.

Shapeways. Then go and have a nice vacation.

I Personally like the look, but to each his own I guess.

I mean, I guess it can make awful things if you can't follow basic set up and configuration steps on the wiki.

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

If I need one thing, I can hardly get it injection molded for less than thousands.  If the thing I sent to Shapeways and waited 2 weeks for isn't quite right, then it's another 2 weeks and more money.  I don't care how a lot of things look as long as they are functional.  If it needs to be really nice, I can iterate cheaply on the Solidoodle and send the final to Shapeways.  Iteration with Shapeways is a lot of money and wasted time.

1. Why go after another big'un when you can easily destroy a little'un.

2. Yes 3D printing at the low end is crap. Sorry its a fact. What use, what so ever is one of these things ?.

I suppose if making an ugly plastic blob, that kind of, just maybe, if you squint, might just, resemble what you think you were actually wanting to make.

Sorry if this upsets you, but, in my humble opinion, save your money. Just go and buy a model made on an injection molding machine for a few Dollars, or use an excellent service like Shapeways. Then go and have a nice vacation.

Can you send me a link to the few dollar injection molded model source?  I'd be very interested in that.  Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised you didn't also tell us to sponsor "motolab" in your PSA.

18

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

Yeah, I was trying to find his motolab 3d printing site again (on motolab.org ) but it looks like he removed all the relevant pages, and I also cannot locate the indigogo campaign anymore.

I think it expired because it wasn't being funded.

Nope it was put back into 'draft'

Ahh, I see.

Why did the thread change? is it so google doesn't crawl over every RepRap site when we search "Xanfaster"?

And if it's a serious Question, I bought the Solidoodle 2 for a reason. I'm new to printing in 3 Dimensions, and I really didn't want to drop $1300.00 on my first printer the is supposed to use proprietary filament cartridges.

Also, after 4 months of research, I honestly feel more comfortable with this than any other printer. It's cheap, I don't have to build it, and it prints well when configured correctly, it's brilliant.

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

Objet make real Nice 3d printers. A bit pricey though. I think a budget model like solidoodle  is probably a  good bet for entrance into the 3d print world.

23

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

Its OK, google will crawl this site when you search for "motolab.org" or anything related.

Now he changes the thread title to a comparison between solidoodle and cube? Totally irrelevant to the previous topic.

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

When a website owner collects your ip address and then posts information about you online, just because he does not agree with your opinion, is it legal, or could you sue?

Anyone know who to complain to?

Re: Budget 3d printer ?

Another forum I'm on locks out editing after 5 minutes.  This would be one of the reasons why, though I wouldn't want to do that here.

If he had promoted Moto in a manner that wasn't underhanded and spammy, and explained the business model, things would have been different.  Having been to the Indigogo and site, I'm still not sure how prints are supposed to be free.  It seems like he would subsidize the initial print with subsequent sales, but that sounds risky, and only suited for people designing things to sell rather than personal use.
