Topic: Can't get anything to print.

I have reset and re-trammed, and adjusted the bed height several times, even in software I have adjusted the Z offset and it doesn't matter what I do, the print brim just does not stick, its like no matter what I do, there is too much air-gap and I have adjusted this hot bed to buggery and its beginning to grate on me a bit.

I have tried several ideas from youtubers, one being to drop the part 0.1mm below the bed in the print part before slicing. Another was to start printing, pause, drop the Z axis 0n 0.1mm increments until the print sticks.

Doesn't seem to matter if I have got Kapton tape on or not.

Another annoying thing is my presets are being over-ridden, I set the mins to be 240 on the hot end, 100 on the hot bed and STILL something keeps on making adjustments that is screwing up my prints.

So far I have only had 2 successful prints off the same part and nothing else I have printed has worked out.

IDK if the actual preferences are set in the STL or the author can specify stupid start points like 1cm above the bed, but its weird how one STL prints perfect but the several I have tried off thingyverse have all messed up in some way.

Just can't work it out.

Any wisdom?

For example, just started a print for the Touch sensor fitting, after a bit of coaxing to get the heaters up to speed, its printing perfectly fine.

Re: Can't get anything to print.

what are you using to slice with & run the printer?
maybe there is a setting somewhere you missed.

as for print height - I do not use a Z offset at all.. I level the bed using a strip of standard copy paper, setting the nozzle to just barely drag on it, and call it good. Never understood the need of a Z offset, really.

Re: Can't get anything to print.

I first used Slic3r but that stopped working, as is common with linux, developers make cahnges to their programs without consideration to what dependencies exist elsewhere, so you have a working system one minute, a stuffed ornamental laptop the next.

So I use Cura and also Repetier.

The system was going through a complete meltdown IMHO, I managed to get my item to print, only after did I realize that the entry for the diameters were in fact radius so the holes are too big... sad

Still, atleast its not windows and the current updates that are breaking USB's...

Re: Can't get anything to print.

ok - i have no idea on Cura, I use Slic3r.

Go thru your Cura settings looking for anything temp related.. I know Slic3r has temp presets in the Filament settings section that will over-ride the manual settings if they are set to anything other than 0.

My number one golden rule is simple. Unless you have an issue that an update promises to fix, you don't need it. I know people that except every update that come out for everything they own and use and then complain when it no longer works. Stop updating. The newest is not always and in most case the best. If it's works and you have no issues, don't update.

Could not agree more!! The ONLY thing that is allowed to update freely is my antivirus.

Automatic updates for Windows are turned off here. Only security type updates get installed and only when I want to install them.

I use an older version of Repetier Host - v1.0.6.
Why? because an update broke it! Uninstalled the update, and went back to the previous version and it worked again. Go figure.

Every single piece of software that gets installed has automatic updating turned off first thing.

Re: Can't get anything to print.

Sometimes the updates are breaking things because of security, the Slic3r stopped working when the .NET version for linux was updated along with a security update for the operating system.
