Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

The article at https://www.instructables.com/id/Using- … Vinci-Jr/. Describes how to use PLA filament from any company. The guide lists everything you need, where to obtain it and how to do it. The described method is fairly simple and inexpensive, less than $50.00. It allows you to create a NTAG213 sticker to replace the XYZ NFC Tag.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

If you order the paper tags you will be able to use the android app and 3rd party filament.

Im sort of an idiot. I just got a xyz jr w firmware ver 2.2.9 for 50$ off a family friend, no experience besides the half roll it came with. What are my options?I cant reset tags, but I could write new ones with my phone? How do I do that, where do I get the info to write to them?

Start by reading the threads - this has been explained many times.

Hello so I just received my ntag stickers in the mail today and tried to use the NTAG refill tool apk. that was available in another thread. Buy NTAG 213 stickers from aliexpress or ebay from china for really cheap and use the android app for resetting tags and making tags to turn them into functional tags for the printer.

True, I wrote that guide. The problem with this forum is the information is spread out among many threads and there doesn't appear to be one thread that details all of the steps necessary. I wrote that as a compilation of the things I found here. A few of the links in that thread even link back to here. For example, the program you wrote to make the NFC tags.

I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes by writing that. I was just trying to share the information in a more accessible way.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

Hi All,

I'm currently using the NTAG Refill Tool to successfully create NFC tags for use on my Da Vinci Mini w+.  It is currently running firmware version 1.0.4, but the latest is 1.0.7.  Has anyone confirmed that firmware version 1.0.7 works with homemade NFC stickers?  I would like to upgrade but am afraid that it'll render my 3rd party filament useless.

Thanks!

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

At this point the paper tags have worked on all firmware visions, but remember they can only be used one time. After it reaches zero it will no longer be able to be used in your printer. If you have on to it, sometime time after 100 different tags ids have been used. You will be able to used it again. The printer stores approximately 100 tags in an EEPROM is why this works this way. Also, if you check out some of the other threads someone has come up with a method of reverting back firmware.

Hi I'm completely new to 3D printing and receiving my new Mini w+ in the next few days, can you please let me know what firmwares are 'safe' to use with the  NFC Tags?

Thanks in advance.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

I'm about to order third party filament.  The app allows set temperature 3 options (190, 200, 210).  Does this allow enough control to get good prints (what if optimum temp is 205 degrees)?  Is there a way to get a more discrete temperature setting?

The printers only have 3 working temps, these are "set" by which colour you have the tag set to.
There is no "set temperature"  with the davinci's.

The filament that XYZ sells is a special formula made just for them that melts at a lower temp then the standard formula does. So your mileage is going to very with third party PLA as it may or may not be able to get hot enough. It will never get hot enough to do ABS or PETG or any other material unless you get it's electronics and extruder and swap them for open source like E3D and RAMPS.

If optimum is 205 then 200 or 210 will work. The issue is that is the set temp the actual temp at the extruder nozzle. In most cases it is not due to the design. The actual temp is usually 5 to 10 degrees lower in the melt zone than what is reported at the display or to the controller.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

Thanks for the reply.  With my current xyz filament the control panel shows 204 degrees so I guess based on what I just read that this would probably be a set temp of 210?  I also just got a spool of their PETG for the davinci jr so I'll be interested to see what temp it sets for that.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

I took the latest update by mistake, thinking it was a software update. It looks like the latest firmware blocked 300m rolls only, which were never for the jr. or mini.  If you're using paper tags, set your roll length and remaining length to 200m or less.

Unless there is something in the latest firmware you really like. You may want to consider taking a look at this thread http://www.soliforum.com/topic/17766/ho … -cartridge , it does work. I performed this on a dead board I bought and it brought the board back to life.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

They changed the maximum allowed filament length from 300m to 240m.

So simply use 200m or at least 240m.

Does anyone have the checksum values for 240m - so I can program my own?
