Topic: Filastruder for HDPE Samples

Hi everyone, has anyone tried using HDPE pellets? Also, I am wanting to use this filastruder to make HDPE samples because purchasing this extruder would be a lot cheaper than purchasing an injection molding machine. I was thinking of attaching a mold to the end of the barrel and letting the molten polymer fill into it. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Great out of the box thinking and an interesting proposition!

You would have to keep the mold at or above the temperature of the extruded filament and have sprues set up to vent the mold since the extruder is fairly low pressure..

The basic description in Foundry Science is to know what temperature your melt is and where it is at in the mold and if it will give you the desired properties as it cools.
