Topic: Loading Filament Issues

Hi, I am new to this forum and to 3D printing.  I am using a Da Vinci Junior up until recently I have had no problems.  However, currently I cannot load any filament.  It heats up as normal but the gears are not drawing the filament into the feeder tube.  They are just grinding.  When I pull the filament out you can see where the gears have worn away part of the filament.  There are no error messages.  The problem started after a piece of filament broke off in that area and I had to pull it out.  Surely this must be a fairly common problem.  I am wondering whether the gears need cleaning.  Any suggestions guys?

Re: Loading Filament Issues

Have you tried cleaning the extruder? Chances are it is clogged up. Also try releasing the Bowden tube and make sure there are no clogged at either end.

My mini came with a thick piece of wire you can cram into the top of the extruder to push out any stuck filament, do this during the clean nozzle procedure.

Thanks David.  I will give cleaning the extruder and gears a go later tonight.

Re: Loading Filament Issues

I have got it working again.  I gave it a thorough clean at both ends.  There was an obstruction found blocking the mouth of the feeder tube after I starting taking it apart.  Thanks for the advice.
