Topic: New exhaust system for smells during extrusion
We all know about the smells of extruding plastic - PLA, PETG - no problem, but ABS - now you're in a different category. Then there's the stuff like polycarbonate or nylon where you really, really, don't want to breathe in anything.
I was going to design and laser out a box to put around the Filastruder, with an opening for a 4" tube to come in, and a 2.5" or so opening for filament to go out (negative pressure to suck air in by making exhaust larger than inlet). A trial run with tubing zip tied to be parallel with the nozzle, no enclosure, completely eliminated the smell of ABS - so I'm not sure an enclosure is actually needed. I used this fan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0085GTELM/ , and some 4" wire/plastic tubing along with some 4" rigid tubing. If I were buying things again, I would go with 4" semirigid aluminum ducting instead of the 4" wire/plastic for the last bit going to the Filastruder.
Unrelated, but you can also see Ian's Filawinder modification - a digital thickness gauge on the Filawinder with a screen that does a continuous readout of current filament diameter. It's working great so far. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:222603
