New exhaust system for smells during extrusion

I will probably be setting my print farm up for ABS. I live in Northern NY near the Canadian border. We get sub zero F temperatures. If I vent my farm outside then I have to pay $$$ to heat that cold air. That is also along with trying to maintain a high temp in the build area.

I have seen some enclosed printer with carbon canisters to clean the air. Then you need just a small exhaust fan to keep negative pressure.

I really have been trying hard to avoid ABS.

I love to use eSun PETG for some things. It is not suitable for my specific production print. Too flexible.
My target market is people who would appreciate the concept of NatureWorks brand PLA plastic. But it is difficult to source the extruder feedstock at wholesale prices. Fialstruder has ABS at a price that will allow me to compete on price with the imported competition.

On the other end of my exhaust system there is a 4" opening.  The flip gates that open and close automatically leave a gap big enough for bugs, plus sometimes they stick and don't open/close as needed.  I had designed a screw on cover, but I wanted something that would both keep bugs out, and let air flow through without me having to go out there and add or remove a cover before and after use.

I decided to apply the 'mesh in print' technique.  I started a print, paused, and laid a mesh screen over the print, and then resumed the print.  After it finished I cut the screen, painted it, and attached it to my metal exhaust.  It works!  It should keep bugs out as well as any screen door mesh does, and the air flow didn't feel diminished.  The wire is actually embedded into the printed object between two layers.  One thing I would change is that in the future I would design in a little curve where I plan for the screen to be laid in, then after printing I would fill that area with wood filler before sanding it flush and painting.  Merely to hide the screen a bit better along the outer edge.

Interesting, that does look like a good value, box and filter only $28, just add fan?  I've already done all the work of running it to the outside, but if I hadn't then you could probably get a 6" fan off Amazon, combine it with that box, and have something pretty good for indoor particles.  Albeit HEPA does nothing for gases so venting it outside is still probably going to result in cleaner indoor air than trying to filter it unless you get two, and then fill the second box with a bunch of activated carbon.
