Topic: Bed leveling question

if I print 12mm squares .2mm thick (1 layer) at all 4 corners of the bed would they all be the same thickness if i used a micrometer to check them.
a piece of paper and a good feel will get you in the ball park but it is not an exact science.

Thanks

There is a debate on it. But the correct value should be half of your desired layer height. Since I print at .2 layers almost exclusively I have leveled my bed using a feeler gauge of .15 this gets me half of the .30 I sometimes use and is close enough to the .2 half that it works fine. There is a manual leveling procedure that I posted and is pinned at the top of the Da Vinci forum that walks you through the process. However the sheet of paper is fairly accurate and is as old as 3D printing it's self.

As for your question they would only measure the same if your bed is level. In addition you need to print one in the middle as well to test for bowing which most beds exhibit.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Bed leveling question

Carl
I have used a sheet of paper for years. I was just wondering if their would be any advantage to mike the thickness and tweak the settings.

the attached pic has always been my setup for leveling its a 3 minute print.

Re: Bed leveling question

I have a drop indicator that I made a mount for. Attach it to the hot end carriage and use that to level it. Then adjust the z height slightly till I get the perfect first layer
