Topic: Help with print

I've just flash to repetier and Octoprint and am trying to tweak the settings to get better prints. I've been working with a small game piece from Sorry (pic below) at 0.1 layer height. While the bottom looks good, I can't get the stem to be acceptable. I've tried bringing the hot end temp down to 180 and slowing the print speed down to 25. That helps but I still get the following. Any suggestions?

Re: Help with print

Why would this help? Give it more time to harden between layers?

Re: Help with print

It doesn't have enough time to cool between layers. You either need a layer fan or to print multiple parts at once.

Re: Help with print

A layer fan and slow down to 15mm/s at the thin bit.
If you have Simplify3d, there's an option to slow print speed down at small/thin sections of a print.

Yes !! Like Kronickabuse  said a cooling fan will help as well.

Re: Help with print

I just put in the fan mod to tilt the fan, plus I opened the sides and am blowing in a large fan. I need to figure out a better way to cool it off in the long run. Would you suggest any different mod for better cooling? I'm using the original Davinci Hot end, but considering the E3D.

Trying the multi-printout  now and will slow down the print when it gets started

Re: Help with print

I ended up printing 3 and it worked out very well. Thanks all for your help.

Re: Help with print

Any suggestions on how to improve my cooling?
Also, how do you like your e3d and how hard was it to install?

Re: Help with print

Call me crazy but I have printed for years with pla with no cooling.
As far as an e3d upgrade read the posts hear . I have had no problems but I also do not have a Davinci machine.
Check thingiverse for a fan that will work with a davinci and e3d.

Re: Help with print

I use an E3D Lite and it's fantastic. Great print quality and filament compatibility.
There are drop-in adapters on Thingiverse that make the conversion very easy or you can choose to use a mount that does away with the stock extruder assembly.

Re: Help with print

If you use Cura to slice, google and read about "minimal layer time", please note that this setting is over-writed by minimum print speed in case you have trouble to get "minimal layer time" working. You can also google and read about "cool head lift". These option give longer time for print to cool between layers. The multi-printout idea basically doing the same thing, each method has its pros and cons.
