Topic: z offset setting

hello all. had my junior for a week now and i have got 4 different colours of xyz junior filament.
i had clicking while printing so from some helpfull people on here i adjusted my z offset from 1.20 to 1.45
this stopped all clicking and the prints was brilliant. (black,clear blue,green,) was all printing on a z offset at 1.45
i then bough some white filament and used it last night on the 1.45 z offset and i got lots of clicking. the print came out
sort of ok but not like my others. so i adjusted the z offset to 1.55 and did the same print again.
this time there has been no clicking. does this sound right having to adjust the z offset for different colour filaments.

on my davinci I have had to change the bed height for the same reason, if you check the temperatures, does the white have a different bed temperature, as I feel that it may be down to expansion of the bed at different temperatures that causes the difference.

the bed on the junior is not a heated bed, i also dont think i can change the height if the bed manually,
it just seem odd that all my prints that came from blue,black,green was spot on, then when i start using white things start to go wrong. its now printing the same print as the last one but on 1.55 z off set, which seems to be ok. iam at work at the minute and left the machine printing while i get home, hopefully i will have a better print, i will just have to remember to put the z off set back down if i change colour again.

What I can tell you is the White prints at 210° and the Black prints at 191°. I am not sure about the other two.

XYZ white has always been an issue for all of their printers. I would honestly stay away from it. Most of them came with white and most users could not wait to use it or throw it out. Dark colors seem to work best with XYZ printers. Also if you ever jail break it try natural PLA. Natural in the various materials seem to be the best for me.

Build yourself a tag writer and fake having a genuine spool. You can then use any filament you like. I'm using AMZ3D white and it's a world apart from the XYZ filament which was horrible. The transparent yellow XYZ was nice, but their filament is twice the price of others, and no way near the quality of the more expensive brands.

Yup, just made myself a batch at the three different temperatures, so I pop the one I want in a dummy holder, pop the spool in a cradle on top, and off I go!

thanks for the info Matt, i like it.. can you give me more info on how to make a chip thing. i looked at your picture and inside the junior on the spool holder you have a yellow thing, is that where the chip thing goes ?. where do i get the chip ? i will find the stl file for the fake spool and print a couple ready.. love the idea thanks a lot.
how did you get the black filament from the reel ontop into the extruder ?. looks like you still have the ptfe tube in place as well.

The yellow thing is just an adaptation of a spool holder. I used TinkerCAD to make it. It has a simple gap that you just slide the sticker into still on the backing paper. The sticker is an NTAG213 RFID sticker - you can get loads on eBay.

I program the stickers using an Arduino linked to the PC. You only have to do that to a sticker once to make it into a "fake spool" that tells the printer it has 300m of filament on it.

This has the info about building the thing you need to program the stickers. Don't be put off, it's actually really easy.
