Topic: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

I've been printing on my soldoodle 3 with no issues and used the same computer to try to get an old 2pro up and running.

I'm getting a weird effect...the gcodes seem wrong.  the printer is just printing wrong as if im getting binding or offset error.  BUT the printer is running smooth and I'm not seeing any skipping when it moves in the x and y directions.  I'm using cura and repetier's latest updates.

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

need more details... what do you mean by "the gcodes seem wrong" - what exactly is wrong about them?

was the printer set up correctly in RH? in Cura?

how about the printer itself? how long has it been since it was run?
Have belts been adjusted? rails lubricated? everything in proper alignment?

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

thanks for the replies.  I'll try to answer, plus I have more info.

I suspect that I might be running repeteir and/or slic3r and/or Cura with the wrong settings.

I am a mechanical engineer---like that makes me a superhero--but I'm pretty good and understanding how and why things behave

Yes these printers have been down for a bit.
Belts seem okay and I'm familiar with a belt slipping sound and such.  The belt will slightly twang when I strum them.

I own several solidoodles and I have a Solidoodle 3 running with this computer in my classroom.  But when I hook up to my 2 it starts behaving really weird.  printing a simple cube and I start getting random offsets (+/- ~10mm) in the y direction both ways.  I watch it and it sounds and looks fine.  The y carriage moves cleanly.  My mind moves back and forth between thinking hardware problem and then software problem.

But this damn computer runs a solidoodle 3 fine!!!

Have you taken it apart, Clean and lubed everything? Then make sure your carriages are square. And then tensions belts again

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

Yes, I've squared the carriages.

No, I have not taken it apart.  Since the carriages "feel" reasonably easy to move by hand, I have not taken the unit apart.

I did buy this used on eBay so a good cleaning might be in order.

I guess this is what's next - I'm a teacher and today is a snow day....thank you for your reply.

I only ask to be SURE...is there any setting or something else that would create a y offset error.  I'm very sure (but not 100%) the motor is not stalling and the belts are not skipping.

separate question - I usually use a light 3-in-one oil for lubrication.  What is a preferred lubricant for slides and z screw?

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

I use a 3n1 oil on mine. just because you cant feel it binding by hand doesnt me it wont under power. Also your board could be over heating causing step loss or broken wires some where. A video would really help in diagnosing the problem

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

could also need a voltage tweak for the Y axis, if that is the one having issues

Re: soldidoodle 3 to 2 pro

My bet is VREF needs to be adjusted on the Y axis driver.
