Topic: New software, flexible filament??

I haven't updated the firmware on my 1.0 because I've seen it's not the best idea, and as a newb, everything is printing okay and I don't want to mess with it yet. However! Yesterday I updated the software to 2.2.18 (MacOS) and noticed that Flexible is now a filament option. (Controlling temp is supposed to be a new feature as well, but maybe that needs the new firmware because that option isn't showing up in my version of the software.)

What is everyone's opinion on flexible filament with a Davinci 1.0? I imagine it isn't ideal... and people have told me that printing PLA is nearly guaranteed to clog the hot end. I haven't done anything but ABS yet, but man I'd love to do some flexi.

Two serious mod you need in order to print flexible.

1. Update your firmware to repetitor-firmware, not stock firmware from xyzprinting. repetitor-firmware allow you to use 3rd party filaments. But It may not be easy. Read the instruction and see if you are confident you can do it, and wait to see what other said about this. I think it worth the effort because it opens all kinds of possibility. You can use 3rd party software and 3rd party filament (which is way cheaper than xyzprinting and you have more choice of colors).

2. Upgrade your stock hotend to E3D, this will also allow you to print PLA as well as flexible filaments, it does not cost a lot of money ($10-20), but there is a lot to learn in order to do it.

Neither is easy, but they both worth the effort. Again, if your printer is working, don't mess with it. Wait for one day your get a filament jam and you tried to convince yourself the hotend is broken, or the desire of print in flexible drives you crazy, or your taste for ABS lovely smell fade away...

The one I ordered is $5.41 each, they do take long time to arrive (three weeks in my case), but I always order multiple for backup. The first one I ordered is three month ago, none of them are dead yet so I don't know how long they will last. They don't really jam, not nearly as much as stock hotend at least.

OK, in that case, I have no experience on authentic E3D V6 then, can not recommend authentic E3D V6, but these knock offs are really good, highly recommended.
