Topic: Things to print...

While waiting for my SD3, I have been creating printable objects and placing them on Thingiverse for all.  If you get tired of printing printer parts, search for Skyblue in thingiverse search bar, and print something different.  I have a brother in Houston who has a leapfrog creator, and he has printed most of these objects with no problems.  He uses Kisslicer, but I'm not versed in that slicer ( no printer yet ), but it looks promising though, and he swears by it now.   Happy printing everyone!

Cool stuff. Looks like you have a thing for garden gnomes and knick knacks. Haha

Yeah, just looking for something other than printer parts, not the enginering type.  Thanks for looking.

Nice stuff! I need to ask, how do you get it from 123d catch to stl? I have one of my son at 3 weeks old, and I can't, haven't really tried to, figure out how to get an stl from it so that I can print him. I used the catch app on my iPhone, btw.

Re: Things to print...

Well to get an object out of catch 123d, you must remove the background by selecting it and deleting, a tedious prospect, then export it as an .obj. Removing the background is the hardest part to understand.    Then I load that .obj into Netfab Studio (free) and re-orient it to top down if necessary, then export as STL.  Don't know if an app is available for iphone like netfab.  Also, you will need an app like netfab to cut off bottom if necessary, then repair to fill all holes, this closes the bottom so you have a closed mesh.  After re-orienting, and repairing, then export as STL...
Also, your first catch in 123d will be in mobile format, good enough for tablet viewing, but you should consider re-processing it in 123d at Standard mesh, so it looks good on pc, and you will get a higher resolution mesh to print out.
The directions in Catch 123d are poor, almost like they don't want you to succeed....but i encourage you to try, eventually you will succeed!  I encourage you to watch some videos on youtube re: Catch123d.  Thanks for your interest.

Oh, it's that easy! Wow. Thanks for the reply, I will certainly attempt to follow your steps. I've been having so much fun just printing things that this was put on the back burner.
