Topic: E3D clone fries board?

So i put in a E3D clone into my Davinci 1.0A and when i started up printer it didnt read the thermistor on the extruder right. So i changed it to NTC 3850 in the firmware. Then the thermistor stopped reading all together. but the fan worked. now after trying to get the thermistor to work, the fan stopped workin! I checked the harness and the harness is fine. SO what pinouts do i need to check to make sure everything works on the board? Are there fuses on the board that need to be fixed? did i fry the little board in the extruder or the mainboard. Im still using the stock 5v fan.

The fan does not come on unless the system sees a head temp of 50c or higher.

Time to get out the DVM and check some voltage and resistance.
Check the thermistor resistance both at ambient temperature and at a higher temperature ( warm it in your fingers )
Check for voltage at the heater element wires at the extruder board when it is trying to heat.  I don't know the pinouts, just trace these wires.
Google images for your parts should help.
Let us know what you find.

It is an 100K thermistor, set your configuration to the bold text below. If it is broken, buy NTC3950 from Amazon. You might need some kapton tape to help it stay in the extruder.

So where is the pullup resister for the the extruder thermistor. I changed the pullup resistor for the heatbed thermistor so that i could use the stock NTC3850 without having to mess with the tables.

On the 1.0A it was on the PCB inside the extruder. On that model the thermistor connected to pne side of that board then the other side of that board was connected to the mainboard.

I am going to say based on the image that R2 would be the magic resistor. R8 limits current to your A fan, R1 limits current to your B fan, and R4 limits current to the LED in the spin sensor. R6 and R9 limit the current on the Out of Filament sensor in the middle.

U1 is an opto sensor that is based on reflection. It has two windows where one emits a light beam and the other receives the beam reflected from in object. In this case that black and white wheel on the idler pulley. If the filament jams then the wheel will stop spinning and will no longer generate pulses on U1 and the machine will or should give you and alarm.

It is the same device as U2, just a different configuration. One window is an IR LED, while the other window is a phototransistor.

OK, I did the same thing yesterday, my E3D is from Ebay, and it didn't say what thermostats it uses. based on the model, it should be using  5 : 100K thermistor - ATC Semitec 104GT-2 (Used in ParCan & J-Head) (4.7k pullup), but it gives me 758C at room temperature(28C). So I tried every possible setting, it is not working.

So I test the resistance of thermostats with multi-meter, it reads 0.4 ohms. that can't be right, I decide the thermostats is burned somehow and decide to replace with the thermostats on my stock hotend. after I unscrewed the thermostats on E3D, the temperature changed. So I change the seting back to 5 for 104GT-2, and it reads 28C now.

It turns out the screw that fix thermostats to the hot-end is screwed too tight and break the plastic shell of thermostats wire and short circuit it. It did not damage anything, but give wrong reading because resistance is very low. I tape the wire with kapton tape and put it back with screw, everything is normal now. So before you mess up with anything else, test resistance on your thermostats, it should more than 100 ohm if not short circuited by the screw.
