Topic: stepper motor driver replacement?

Hi Guys,

this is the first time i'm posting here but i actually having been lurking around since i bought my Da Vinci 1.0 in 2014. With a very limited pior knowledge of electronics and/or programming I was able to flash my Da Vinci with Repetier by learning from the posts in this forum and it had been working perfectly until recently when when I realized that the stepper motor of my extruder had stopped working. I plugged the cable from another stepper motor from my printer in it and I got it to work, so I know that the problem is not the motor it's self. I was hopping I could get some help in discovering exactly how I can get this issue fixed. I read a topic about replacing the stepper motor driver but since i'm not certain that they are broken I fear rushing to get them replaced only to figure that the problem might have been somewhere else. Any clues about how I should proceed from here would be of much help.

I have just swapped the stepper motor drivers among each other with no luck, so they are definitely not the problem, and I also checked for continuity between all the wires that go from the motor to the driver and they all appear to be fine. Is there any place where things frequently go wrong that I should be looking at?

once again, any help will be greatly appreciated and sorry for the dumb questions.

extruder motor may still working, just not pushing your filament. check the mechanics.

as you can see a whole on the gear (center of the image near the green filament), there is a small screw in it to fix the gear on the motor axis.

If this screw is loose, your motor will run just fine, but the gear will not spin but will make tinny noise when you try to extrude. this is partically hard to identify for extruder step motor because they spin so slow and you may not hear the noise.

just use hex screw driver of right size and tighten it. The axis of step moter is not round, tighten the hex screw toward the flat side of the axis to get the gear fixed.
