Topic: Moire Problem

Hello from Argentina. I've a Self made vulcanus with MK7 direct drive extrusion system and i have a big problem called "Moire"

In big prints like the botom image i dont care of it.. it creates a cool diagonal surface.

When i print small objects in high quality the surface is awfull... Here you can see  a print with 1/32 DRV pololu:

Here you can see another image.. the left one is a 3d printed piece using 1/32 DRV and in the right a piece with 1/16 A4988 pololu

Re: Moire Problem

I'm no expert, but my SD2 has this same issue and it's been recommended to me to fine tune the voltage for the stepper motor that drives the extruder.

Solidoodle 2 - e3dv6 - Hobb Goblin - e3d Titan - lawsy carriages - Direct Drive Y Axis - T8 Z axis - OctoPi

Re: Moire Problem

yes, fine tune the stepper driver voltage for the extruder motor. that is most likely where your moire is coming from.

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1
Printit Industries Beta Tester - Horizon H1

Re: Moire Problem

i simply tune by performance & appearance while the printer is running.

set it up to print a single wall cube - no infill.
then while it is printing, adjust the voltage down (using either a ceramic or plastic screwdriver - NO metal!) until the moire goes away - or until the the extruder motor starts skipping - whichever comes first... small increments have a big impact so go slowly

it is one of those things that you "should" be able to tune out if you are patient, but sometimes it will not go away completely without other consequences.

if the motor starts to skip steps, you will want to turn it back up a little

There is not a set value. You must find the correct value for your machine. Adjust it a bit and see if it gets better or worse and then adjust again accordingly.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.
