Topic: Da Vinci 1.0a LCD and M999 error

I flashed me Da Vinci 1.0A to repetier a few weeks ago, and after minimal adjustments I was getting excellent prints in ABS.

I upped my infill to 60% to print the MPCNC.  At that point the print failed and the nozzle seemed to be clogged.  While I was trying to clean the nozzle (using fine guitar wire, and then a toothpick) the extruder fan stopped and the LCD display went off.  There are no obvious disconnects on the printer or fraying.

I can connect to the printer and jog the axes from repeitier, but when I try to heat the extruder I get a M999 error.  If I try to heat the bed the printer sounds error beeps over and over.

The LCD is out but I can press the buttons and hear corresponding beeps as I do.  I removed the printer shell and the FF cable looks to be in perfect condition.

At this point I'm thinking maybe I crossed the thermistor wires, or the like causing a short.

My questions are:

Would causing a short here make the LCD go out?
What would make the LCD go out?
If it's a short would there be something on the main board to be fixed? (I've read there is a fuse, etc.)
If there is a problem with the main board would I still get the (limited) functionality of the printer that I am getting?

I've thought of replacing the thermistor, but it appears that the 1.0a uses a 500K rather than the 100k for both the extruder and the heated bed.  Before I get crazy with work arounds I'm hoping one of you can guide me to a simpler fix.

Thanks in advance

Re: Da Vinci 1.0a LCD and M999 error

You caused a short and one or both of the zero ohm resistors on the mainboard near the 12 volt input have opened. They use zero ohm resistors in place of fuses.

Thank you for a speedy response.  That definitely gets me going in the right direction. Now I just need to go get a battery for my multimeter.

I wish I had asked this question a few days ago.

thanks again

I checked the zero ohm resistors and there are thee that I can see, all tested at about 1.4.  So far I've only found two threads that somewhat cover this issue, do you have any suggestions of where I might find some with more information?

Post an image of your mainboard and the area where the hot end and 12 volts plug in at. It is also possible you could have damaged the power supply. With the unit on do you measure 12 volts at the black and yellow wires?

yes, I get right at 12v on the white connector for both sides.  I'm attaching a few pics of the main board and the error message it get in repitier.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0a LCD and M999 error

So your either not getting 12 volts to the heater and it times out due to not heating, or your thermistor is shorted or open and the system can't read the temp which again makes it think not heating. If you are using Repetier there should be an error log you can look at to see what the issue is.
