Topic: Mini w - Forgot how to print, pours filament

This beats me.

Error description:
1) Printed a small job fine. (good start)
2) I let my PC (Win7-64bit) sleep (with XYZware running) over night
3) Next day I want to print a new part and woke up my PC
4) Cleared the Workbench and imported the new part
5) It sliced but got never sent to the printer, instead I got a popup saying "Printer error" (or similar)
6) I restarted XYZware. (not the printer)
7) I got it to start printing...

BUT...

Now it prints the start-stripe perfectly, but when it begins with the part it tries to force way too much filament through the nozzle. It never retracts the filament, but instead tries to force it forward so the gear skips and soon, all filament ends up as a blob on the nozzle.

I have tested many parts, including those from their support site. On some parts it prints a few seconds and then slowly backs the nozzle to the rear part of the table leaving a blob with a 'tail'. It repeats this over and over... sad

I have tried to:
1) Restart the printer
2) Restart the PC
3) Calibrate the printer
4) Clean the nozzle.
5) I also tried to make a reset of the printer by holding the button while turning it on, but only thing that happened was that the led got a purple-ish color.

I think it is software-related, because the starting-strip prints fine every time (including the filament retraction when it is done).

Any ideas?

6) Installed and tried to print from the Android app. Seems to work!
7) Uninstalled XYZware and reinstalled. Did not help. I did not have to login again but all settings remained in the computer, even if the uninstall program said "Are you sure you want to completely remove XYZware and all of its components?". Bad

Did you check the Z offset? Might be that you are trying to print with the extruder to close to the bed.

8) Tried to install XYZware on my other Win7 PC. Fail. I don't know if it is because they don't like HP or if it is because the OS is talking Swedish. The problem's name is CLR20r3.

It is fun, you just made the mistake of buying an XYZ printer. They have been nothing but trouble for most users which is why most reflash to Repetier and run Repetier host or even go as far as to gut the machine and replace the electronics with RAMPS or other controllers.

The issue is the firmware in the XYZ machines is bad then add to that their interface program is garbage as well with limited control and limited file size.

Just so you know there is no such thing as plug and play in the 3d printer market at this time. Regardless of what hype you may read. There just is none. All printers will require calibration, will require tuning, and will require maintenance and supervision.

Agree, 3D-printing is fun. I bought this as my first machine because of it's small size, reported good prints (I agree on that) and low price for the machine. I am it's third owner. Working as a automotive test engineer I like to find the root-cause by gaining understanding on how stuff works.

10) Found files from the program in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Temp. Deleted them all. After all, it is a temporary storage. Next time I started XYZware and tried to print I got this message:

Nothing worse than I had manually to select my printer-type. After this it still failed to print properly.

This printer is an Asian printer. Temporary files to English Speakers versus Tiawanese where these are made are not the same thing. To them the temporary directory is a temporary working directory where machine data and print data is stored at. It does not mean you can delete it and expect it to be regenerated.

What I would do is uninstall the program, then using regedit search the registry for any entry for "XYZ" and any entry for "Da Vinci" and delete them. Then reinstall the software.

Of course while using regedit you could remove a wrong entry and trash your OS as well if you are not careful. I would make a backup copy of your registry first before editing it. But in order to do a clean install of the program you need to remove all registry entries that contain previous data and settings.

Installing XYZware seems to be like jumping in a puddle, it goes everywhere. Found some bits in the registry, but I found nothing that could explain my problems.

But I found that after the printjob has been sent to the printer, it leaves a copy of the my STL-file named C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Temp\flawsDetect.stl. It also makes the files MyTest.json and MyTest.gcode in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming. I could not read/understand those.

In the same folder it also *sometimes* makes the file MyTest.txt that contains readable gcode! My brain did not understand it, but Google helped me by a link to gcode.ws which helped a lot! (Must be an engineer that made that page, I have no complaints).

The code (added below) looks good to me. It however did not print well, assuming that this is what gets sent to the printer I made another test trying the Android app. No, it does not work properly either. So now I again suspect the printer, not the software.

After a number of fails I manage to get it to print by pausing the printer once or twice in the beginning, while it makes the test-strip. I remove what's  already printed and let it continue. The pause seems to make the printer in a better mood. I do not know why.
