Topic: I gave it a try to see

Well alot of discussion has been made about a pritnable gun. And printabel magazines i've had my own theories for a while and thought i would attempt to learn the materiasland see what conclusions i coudl come up with.

Now i do not have an enclosed build platform this may or may not make a difference my assumption is that it will

the total build time is approximately 9 hours

it printed flat on its spine so there was some over hang that does not look to have been properly supported.

this morning it finfihed printing at around 3 am and not sure why but i woke up sometime after walked in saw itwas done looked at it  picked it up and flexed it in the center where it promptly broke in half along the print lines.

While it pissed me off tha ti had promptly broke it, I was actually expecting something like this as for a long time i have felt the print lines may make the magazine fragine. i am now attempting to print another magazine from the base up with a build tiem of 9hrs 47 minutes.

i have posted the photos for others to see  and would like input. Its possable that a acetone vapor bath mayhelp however i cherish certain doubts

Re: I gave it a try to see

Hi Manx, I have been working on a different design myself. I already decided not to print from the base as this would weaken the feed lips which is the one area that needs the most strength, instead I will be going for a two piece design clamshell style I figure this will be the strongest and allow me to add metal inserts for the feed lips if needed... which I am pretty certain they will because even the production mags right now have issues in this area in virtually all of the composites out there wink However if your are going for a limited use/disposable mag this may not be an issue smile

Re: I gave it a try to see

Well i printed a second magazine last night re orienting the print area from the base the print time was 9 Hrs 47 min again however i filmed a little demonstration that is illustrative i feel. the feed lips are a problem but i think that can be solved. the print screwed up on the feeds as you can see from the photos however im impressed with the strength overall of the print. Ronsi if possable i'd like to discuss your idea of a metal insert i may seek out a machinist here to see what he could do in that area i'm thinking maybe a 25 cent to 1 dollar part would make it fully functional and give it alonger life.

as you can tell i gave it a pretty good squeeze on both counts. now its to fgure out the lip issue
