Topic: Anyone with a SD or SD2 in the Houston, TX area?

I'll be ordering an SD2 next week, and I'm hoping to get it in ~2 months.

Anyway, I thought that knowing someone in my area that had experience with this machine would be an invaluable resource, when problems arise, or anything really.

Jump in the water's fine.  It's not really necessary to have someone close unless they're willing to come to your house.  Most of the time there's plenty of people here to keep you from pulling your hair out and we'll try to get you straightened out as much as we can.

I've been watching the forums for a few months and feel confident in the ability of the community to help guide me in the right direction (So long as I provide adequate documentation). So Hopefully I can find any answers to problems that might arise smile

Download and install the software needed, I would suggest Repetier Host instead of Prontoface.  Copy the settings from Ian's YouTube account into it as a good starting point.  That way when the machine shows you'll know how the software works and can concentrate on tuning/fixing the machine.  That's what I have been doing, pushing e software to the limits seeing what works and doesn't.  Learning what the settings do,etc.  now I feel much more confident that as long as printer arrives not damaged I can calibrate and start using with good results.

That's what ive been doing for the past month or so, so it looks like I'm on the right path. I actually ordered my SD2 this morning, so hopefully I can have a month or 2 to keep working with the software and educate my self software wise.

I have been trying to see what the different slicers can do too.  I got Skeinforge to great great looking g-code, at least in Repetier.  I still need to play with KISSlicr and see how it works.  Sic3r is fast but I have had issues with high quality models with it not crashing on me.  Each slicer has it good/bad points.

I would also look at YouTube for calibration steps and the blog.  Design some parts and download some, when you run into ones with errors (which is going to happen) try and learn to fix.
