Topic: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

I've officially switched to PLA after not being able to get good looking prints with ABS.

I've added a small heatsink to the threaded rod on the extruder, sometimes it works and others not.

Today I got it to print one thing and even then it was clicking at a certain point of the model on every layer. On the print I'm trying to do now, at the same point on every print (start of layer 2) its click click click click clicking

I'm literally about to throw it out of the window. How can I stop it? I messaged the people I purchased it from and they said it was suitable for printing PLA (evidently not!!)

I've just bought 3 rolls of PLA and it added up to £70 so I want to use them!

EDIT: I'm printing at 190C as its the lowest temperature to print the PLA I have (It states 190 - 220C on the rolls). I'm using PrimaPLA and I have two fans on the side and a tower fan infront of the printer, the door at the front and the top lid are both wide open.

It's really frustrating because I've seen other people with the same printer as me print perfect PLA models all day long, for example, Dopesoner930 on Youtube.

So contact him and see what all he did to get it to print if you have not.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

Does anyone have any photos or anything I can use to make a bigger heatsink? I tried making a bigger one but it wouldnt fit back into to the carriage because the gears that push the filament into the extruder head were in the way.

As always, any help is appreciated smile

I emailed them 2 days ago and there has been no reply as of yet. They are a big company called PrintME3D and they have told me that they have multiple machines that they mainly use for printing PLA for tuition and so forth.

They are somewhat hesitant to give advice as they figured I am using Repetier although I am only using it because XYZWare on my PC would crash every time I tried to use it and I never was able to print anything with it.

p.s, i may have accidentally reported your post instead of replying, so if mods are here, I'm sorry and the poor chap didn't do anything wrong! I'l blame it on being tired... wink

Scobo a user here has modded his 1.0 to do PLA, Wood, and flex and his works great. he has a thread here about woodfill that goes into his mods detail. You could also probably PM him as well, just blame me.. He is a good guy though and would like the attention. The 1.0 has the exact same setup as the 1.0A. The only difference is the claim that XYZ makes that the 1.)A will print PLA out of the box.

I might add that it will print their PLA. XYZ has their PLA and ABS specially formulated so it prints at a much lower temperature than third party brands. XYZ runs their ABS at 190 and their PLA is even lower.

Ok, thank you. I will go and browse the thread and see if I can find anything.

I will report back tomorrow (UK Time) and let you know how things are going.

I actually pressed quote this time smile

Re: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

I had swapped over to a e3d hot end and was having problems with PLA jamming. but one thing I saw on the e3d forum was to put a small amount of vegetable oil on the filament (I have a paper towel that I put the oil on then put that around the filament so it adds a small amount as it drags through it) haven't had any clicking since then.

I also retighten the head but if you have the standard head that's not a possibility.

With the stock head  you may need to add some heat sinks to it to get PLA to print well.

Only down side to the oil is you need to clean it off if you want to then print with a flexible filament like TPU. if you don't the TPU manages to slide out the side hehe.

On a side note TPU is some fun stuff to print with.
You do need to slow down the printer with TPU but you don't need to do any other hardware mods.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

And there is always the kind of filament you use...

I started with Shaxon's PLA, didn't turn out so good, kept clicking and no way to stop it no matter how much cooling I tried.
I tried Hatchbox instead, and it's great!  Never heard a click since then.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

I was having this same problem using XYZ's yellow PLA and at first would get a couple layers before the clicking started. I tried cleaning the nozzle with the poking things that come with the printer before each print and would get about an hour in before the clicking started and nothing came out of the extruder. This morning I found this:

http://www.soliforum.com/topic/8488/pla … asy-picsa/

I'm currently 3 hours into an 8 hour print with no problems so far. If it fails again I'll post another reply, but so far so good. The only difference I noticed was that now I have to use glue or something to get the filament to stick to the bed. Hope this helps if you haven't seen it already.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0A | Repetier | Slic3r | Jamming

Just bought a used Davinci 1.0A and flashed it with Repetier...
On the original transparent PLA prints fine and never clicks...
White PLA cheep brand, clicks and jams...
I pulled out filament and it is obvious the transition zone temperature is to high i PLA expands in diameter inducing more friction until it jams permanently...
Bad design and cooling should be applied to the fist part and transition zone but the fan just blows air over everithing including nozzle head...
I am going to modify extruder head or else the printer is useless...
Update soon...
