Topic: Issue with auto leveller sensor

Hi All,

So I have an ET-I3 which came in a kit form - managed to build it and everything appears to be fine - I have set the auto leveler sensor to about the thickness of two playing cards from the print bed, and it appears to be working well.

However (and isint there always one of those?) when I go to print a model, I can see the light on the sensor come on..... but the print head seems to ignore it, and the extrusion heads impact the print bed. TXT Loser lover ringtone

I have adjusted it so that the sensor kicks in with the head about a cm off the print bed, just to test, but it still occurs...

I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue - I am using Cura, and trying to print a whistle - the stock file that came with the printer - I don't yet know enough to know if perhaps the software is dictating the start height, or I have something else out of line...

Any help would be much appreciated

Is the two playing card thickness the height to print at, or just for the leveling function? If so, I doubt that you will get a print to stick. Nozzle to bed height for printing should be about one regular printer paper thickness.

I don't have the auto leveling feature, so sorry, no suggestions.

To be exact your print height should be half or less of your desired print height. I go with normally half to keep the first layer from bulging as much and requiring more post finishing. I use thickness feeler gauges that you can get at an auto parts store or amazon.

Carl
Do you heat the nozzle and bed to temp before leveling?

Thanks

Yes I do.  I do so to account for thermal expansion which could be significant between the bed and head.

Re: Issue with auto leveller sensor

I have an I 3  that was not holding bed level . seemed like i had to adjust for every print.
There was flex in the vertical part of the machine . I added braces . flex gone bed holding solid.
the flex in the frame was changing  the distance from the nozzle to the bed . Not a lot but when you are talking fraction of a mm does not take a lot to mess up the first layer.

The ET variant looks like there is lots of potential for frame flex.
