I am currently working on two core xy printers. Finally figured out the homing and end stop configuration, but the problem I'm having now is when when x or y moves the other axis moves with it. Is this the way core xy works or is it something with the way the belt is tensioned? One is with fishing line the other gt2 but both are pretty tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If when calling for the X axis to move only, the Y axis moves as well. This sounds like you have one of the motors running backwards. You can either flip the connector on one motor or change its direction in the firmware.
If I'm not mistaken I flipped both motors then inverted in firmware to resolve homing issues. When I move either axis the other axis moves as well. I figured both x and y should have same steps per mm.
Get your motors turning correctly then invert the homing direction to match your setup.
With both motors wired up forward the x axis moves and homes toward x max instead of x min.
So I double checked and even moved both motors by hand and it moves correctly. I redid the tension to make sure both rails were perpendicular as well. I have both x and y steps at 80. I'm running the most recent version of marlin I believe. I have run out of stuff to try.
Could you show a picture or a movie what do you mean by "when x or y moves the other axis moves with it"?

I disassembled the machine for the time being. When x is told to move a set amount of distance y would also move, vice versa for y.
Are you using Repetier firmware? Are you sure you have a Core XY config selected?

Ok sounds good. I'm not an expert in CoreXY motion, but I've build corexy printers and had some trouble with printers xy motion.
Are you using the online firmware config tool for Repetier?
I believe wardjr is right in that you have one of your motors running backwards. Basically you need to flip the motor connectors, trail and error, until you can get the movement right first. Sorry I can't provide more specific help, but that's what I did until I found the right combination. Google Corexy XY movement for more specifics.
A quick video would help a lot.
I should have recorded a video. I pulled parts from both printers to assemble a giant wilson II prusa variant. I will build a smaller core xy but It seems like I always have the same issues with the core xy motion. I will post a video as soon as I get it reassembled. I know it's something simple I'm overlooking.
