Topic: Supports stringing off model
Any ideas what causes this?
Slic3r Da Vinci 1.0a .32 layer width (after lots of failed prints this is all I can get to work successfully)
ABS
Extruder 250
Bed 100
Cooling disabled
Rectilinear grid supports

Looks like you need cooling on. Hard to see but it looks like the support is falling in on itself
Pretty much , starts ok but at the mid point the layers become birdnesty and it fails.
Any suggestions around settings for the Cooling in Slic3r?
I'm not sure. I only have an sd4. Only print abs. I have a blower fan running full all the time pointed at the print
And i don't know davincis bit 250 seems kinda hot for abs
Update. Figure if I sort this out it will be the solution with the supports too
These are supposed to be smooth sabre tooth tiger teeth.
From left to right the only changes have been cooling
100%. I've always on Automatic Off
Slic3r .32 layer heights
Abs
Da Vinci 1.0a firmware flashed with repetitive
Extruder 230
Bed 100
3 top and bottom layers
Those teeth defenitly need better cooling
Turned cooling to full, took heat down to 210 still doing it ![]()
Slow the feed rate down. The layers don't have enough time to cool before it starts laying down the next one
Roger that, I was trying to find the specific setting in slic3r and went from 80mm/s to 50 mm/s and still same issue
The only other thing I can think of is maybe the infill is too low (5%) ill try a 100% on it to see if i get same results then work backwards.
Print a tall skirt along with it.
50mm per second is too fast for a Da Vinci. Their default for fast printing is 40mm per second. Medium and fine are even slower. The Da Vinci is not a fast machine and should not be run over 40mm per second without a different hot end design.
Thank you. I'll change to 30ms and test
Update:
All settings at 30 mm/s still occurring ![]()
Cooling @ 100%
Foudn the setting in cooling to set layer time minimum from 5 - 30.
Print time now gone from 45 mins to 1:45..... fingers crossed.
Same deal and twice the wait ![]()
Cooling set to Auto and minimum layer time 30 seconds
EDIT
I didn't read the settings correctly, Setting the speed required all other settings to be 0 (Which I didn't do the first time)
Trying again @ 30 mm/s now with 100% cooling (except first 5 layers)
If that fails ill try 10mm/s
EDIT EDIT
So, 30 mm/s failed (but probably best print so far)
trying 10 now (2 1/2 hour print for a 5 cm tooth...) If that still fails I can focus my attention elsewhere..
So 10 worked ( still not 100% but best so far) but was so painfully slow.
Apart from the support issues of late I was previously able to print without issues at a decent speed.
Hrmm I'm so lost ![]()
The issue with 3d printing on a whole it that every part, and every spool of filament requires different settings. Yes you can get a ballpark setting but it will still need to be tweaked for every part. It all depends on geometry. Larger parts can be printed faster but small parts need to be printed slower and often times requires them to be printed in multiples or print something else on the bed at the same times. The trick is to allow time for each layer to cool before the next so that sometimes requires something else to be printed so the hotend moves away from the smaller part for a while. Getting the settings right for each print is the hardest and most troublesome part of this hobby.
Thank you ![]()
Additionally I had someone else reply to suggest setting the support distance from default 2.15 to 2 or even 1.5
Now I know re smaller parts too so I have a few ballpark settings saved now.
fingers crossed.
Looks like support distance can only be set to 0 or 2 in Slic3r ![]()
I did a test print of 4 cylinders
20mm 15mm 10mm and 5mm
all 30mm height and came out perfect,
I then tried 5, 4, 3 and 2 which all failed / were jaggy.
This does appear to point to the speed being the issue as 5 worked when paired with 20,15 and 10.
I might try print a bunch of 3 and 2's and see what happens.
Worked without issue, looks like I finally have my settings. (touch wood)
