Re: E3D Titan extruder

I did a 3 hour TPU print and at some point it stopped extruding, I believe it has something to do with how my filament is routed. When the filament is loose I have no issues, as soon as the filament gets taut I start having issues. I need to see if there is a better way to feed filament. Right now I have it routed from the extruder through a hole I drilled in the cover to the spool that sits on top of the printer mounted on pvc pipe.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

That stinks about your failed print. Maybe you could put your reel on a motor that slowly turns out slack?

Also, I ordered one of these (I have needed one for my RC heli anyways) to get the stock gear off.

What is the size of the shaft on stock motor?

I have wasted $5 on much worse things in the past.  RC pinion pulls are made for just this, though.

Did you get this yet? Curious to see how you make out

Fedex has it currently.  I'm honestly not sure if the Titan and E3d V6 are going on this printer, however.  It has frustrated me a great deal lately!

Re: E3D Titan extruder

In a 6 hour print in PLA, about 2 hours in the filament stopped extruding, I was watching so I was able to stop it. It seems the filament got jammed in the extruder or nozzle. I guess I will have to take it apart to see where the jam is.

I only have one fan, is that the reason it jammed? It doesn't seem like a layer fan would affect that.

I found the problem, I used a non e3d heat break....I measured the one that came with the e3d, the hole in the hot end side measure 2.18, where as the one I was using 1.89 and the hole is off center to boot. Saving money does not mean it will work well.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Maybe that's what caused the problem you were having with TPU ??
I would recommend a layer fan for PLA, especially with small or thin parts.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Maybe someone can help me with an extrusion issue I'm having.

I have the Titan and e3d v6 Lite installed. Everything seemed to be running fine until I re-flashed Repetier 0.92. When loading filament, it seems to be fine and successfully extrudes a bit, but then it stops extruding. I already took the assembly apart and verified the PTFE tubing was as far down the heatbreak as it would go, and then reassembled everything.

I thought I had it solved since I was able to get a print started, but after about 15 minutes the extrusion started getting worse and worse until just a wisp of filament was extruding.

The hobbed bolt is doing its job, and since the filament won't extrude, it is just tearing the filament to shreds on its way down. I've tried adjusting the tension on the spring between very tight, very loose, and various amounts in between. I'd rather not disassemble everything again...

Any tips, hints, or suggestions? Thank you!

You say reflashed with Repetier 0.92?

Have you calibrated the Extruder. I'm guessing you have the ext0 steps at 99.00
If this is so, you need to change this too around 456.000 and reflashed from Arduino IDE

Regards

I actually used your configuration.h file you provided elsewhere... I checked the e-steps and they were at 425. I just updated to 456 through the settings on the printer and saved to EEPROM. Doesn't appear to have made any difference.

You know when you're feeding the filament initially, and the spring kind of shifts to the right, allowing the filament to feed? There is a distinct point at which the spring shifts slightly back to the left, and that is where it stops feeding. Backing up the filament a few mm will shift it back and allow it to unload... then feeding a couple mm will stop at the same point. Here's some pictures:

It also doesn't seem to be able to extrude anything right now. It just keeps getting stuck at the same point.

Seems my nozzle is totally jammed up. Not sure how that happened. Will figure that out and report back.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Anyone know where I can get teh STL files?  Specifically for the Extruder Bracket and Daughterboard attachment?

I already have the regular E3DV6 mod and want to install my titan I ordered a few weeks ago.  I have been on vacation so I didn't get to this thread until today.  But it seems a few of the links from the first posts are dead.  The youtube video is also dead from the beginning posts.

I have searched all over thingiverse but I can't seem to find the STL files that are referenced here.

Thanks!

Yeah, you are right.  Most of the links on the first page are dead, including the link to ssauntson's instructions.

Thanks for the confirmation.  I thought I was going crazy.  I spent like an hour and a half trying to find these things.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I wanted to show that a pinion removal tool would work to get the gear off, and I thought I had ordered this:

http://www.hobbyking.com/mobile/viewpro … duct=11447

But somehow what I got was this:

http://www.hobbyking.com/mobile/viewpro … duct=31242

The diameter of the screw is 8 millimeters, far too large to pull the pinion off the stepper motor. However, it did make for a great tool to hold the motor in place while I use a propane torch to remove the pinion.http://soliforum.com/i/?aVDuMvm.jpghttp://soliforum.com/i/?UXN2OCN.jpg

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Certainly seems so.  I don't believe heat has much effect on brass.

I could probably use the pinion "puller" to press it back on.

Officially got my Titan and E3D v6 last night, so I'll be busy upgrading this weekend!

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Only had about an hour tonight to tinker.  In order to get the V6 to fit in the Titan along with the filament guide like this:

http://soliforum.com/i/?2X6Gpjk.jpg

You have to remove the bowden collet black thingy.  How do you get that out??

I got it out but only after a good amount of frustration and I broke one of the legs:

http://soliforum.com/i/?znIPNpi.jpg

After that it all went together fairly smoothly:

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I do it by using my fingernails to compress the fingers of the collet inward, then it pops out.

Hopefully I'll never need it.   Thank goodness for the little pack of gummy bears that came with it or I would have freaked out a little more.   smile

Tomorrow I'll get the e3d wired up and decide which of the hole cutting templates I printed will be right for me.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Got a few steps further tonight.  It would be easier if you could place this screw in Titan:

http://soliforum.com/i/?9ELntWT.jpg

But it just doesn't work.   The v6 won't fit in if you secure that.

It's all fitting nicely:  http://soliforum.com/i/?nCTlCRY.jpg

One thing is obvious.   Taking the hotend off for cleaning in the future will not be an easy task...
