Topic: Replacement and Upgrade Motors

We now offer high quality Nema 14 and Nema 17 motors found in our Motors section.

Nema 14- We selected this Nema 14 as a drop in replacement for Solidoodle X motors.

Nema 17 0404S- Another drop in replacement, this is intended for the extruder. Whether you print with direct or Bowden fed orientation, this is still light weight and adds a little more torque then many stock E motors.

Nema 17 2004S1- These things are beasts. We highly recommend these for Y and Z, but they are lighter weight than some extruders, so direct feed extrusion is still an option with this motor.

Also, .9 degree motors are on order and should arrive at some point next week. Once they are in, we will make an announcement on this thread.

Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Replacement and Upgrade Motors

I have a Solidoodle 4... if I retool the X-carriage to fit the Nema 17, will the driver board handle the increased load?  I have burned out 3 Nema 14 X motors in the last year... it is getting old.

Re: Replacement and Upgrade Motors

The board will handle a larger motor.  But having burned up that many motors raises a few othe questions.
Is the VREF adjusted properly?
Are you certain it's the motors that have failed rather than broken wires or failing driver?
Do you have a left y carriage that will accept the larger footprint of a bigger motor?

I'm happy to help you figure out what you'll need in order to get printing reliably again.
