Topic: Need help with printing a part on the Davinci Jr

I am trying to print the 80% pokeball top part from Thingiverse but I cannot get the part sliced with supports in any useable manner.  Because of the hinge on this file I there is a gap between the build table and the rim of the dome. Only the hinge is touching the build platform. I printed the larger version upside down (it looked like a bowl in this orientation) but the top of the dome was all messed up after removing it from the buildplate. I cannot find anyway to add supports so it only supports the rim of the file and doesn't add any supports in the center of the dome. XYZware wants to add supports at the rim and in the middle of the dome but it doesn't print right for some reason when it does this.

How can I get supports in an STL format only around the rim of the dome so that I can run the file through xyzware then print it easier? I have also tried meshmixer and it completely failed with the weird supports that that program generates.

I've attached the STL incase it helps.

I could be mistaken but are you thinking about printing it without supports if I flipped it over? The majority of it is above the build platform because of the hinge.

Yes, I was thinking about printing it flipped over, after fixing the errors. XYZware has a tendancy of messing up things with autorepair.

Print it with a raft.  That might be enough to bridge the gap from the bed to the ball.  And quit us i g the slicer that xyz has.  Use the netfabb in azure.

If it were me, I would import the model into a modeling program and add small cylinders along the bottom edges of the sphere, spaced maybe 5mm apart. That's plenty of space for it to bridge the entire circle and finish the job. A raft won't help, it'll just move the problem up higher in Z--you'll be the same distance from the raft as you were from the bed.

I tried putting something underneath the model and it stuck to the model so I couldn't remove it. I used Tinkercad to add it.

Also, I haven't figured out how to use a different slicer and XYZware to convert it to a 3w file so I can put it on the SD card. I have thought about simplify 3D as the slicer but as I said I don't know how to convert the Gcode to something xyz can read.
