Topic: New Drive Gear Davinci Junior and Filament help

I'm interested in replacing the drive gear on the Jr. It seems whenever a print fails it's because of the filament feeding or rather failing to feed consistently. I've even had the stupid drive gear strip away a huge section of the filament trying to pull the filament out once "unload filament" is used.

Can anyone suggest a workable drive gear that will fit? The factory one is 12mm wide and most of the one's I've found are a good bit smaller and won't fit right. I was going to try the Tatsu v2 but they have no more 5mm in stock. I've emailed them twice asking when and if they will have more but I've received no response.

Thanks!

Re: New Drive Gear Davinci Junior and Filament help

I've recently tried a gear off ebay and it was too long to fit on the Jr feeder...I have started trying to use Hatchbox filament with the Jr and a reset chip but it's acting up. I was able to print a low poly model when I first got the hatchbox and it worked perfectly but now it's getting difficult to start the flow of filament, it starts coming out intermittently or not at all. Then the drive gear just strips away filament instead of pushing it causing a big round ground out spot on the filament. If I push on the filament as it goes to the drive gear it will flow normally but once I let go it kinda works but the fails again. I think a new drive gear would really make the difference here but I cannot find one anywhere to fit.

Unless someone else has a suggestion, I've tried 190 and 210*C and both give the same result.

How are you changing the extruder temperature? Ive been having feed issues on my Junior because the hotend cant keep up with it doing large walls.

Re: New Drive Gear Davinci Junior and Filament help

I have a hacked chip with the password and can alter the code with my phone.

I just wanted to give an update though, I spent a long time searching for a viable option to replace the factory drive gear and have found nothing that would fit the available space. I mentioned that a previous user had used a Tatsu V2 drive gear with good success but the 5mm was out of stock. I emailed them and they said they discontinued the 5mm but still are making the 6mm version. I went ahead and ordered the 6mm version went to my local hobby store and bought a brass tube that measured 6mm external diameter and 5mm internal diameter. After cutting it, it fit in the drive gear and on the shaft absolutely perfectly!

This made a HUGE improvement on the consistency of the flow of the filament and after clearing out a minor clog in the extruder head it works great even with Hatchbox PLA.
