Topic: Trouble Slicing with Slic3r

Hi Everyone.

First of apologies for this being the wrong spot, there's not really a section for problems outside of the Solidoodle.

I've made a spool holder in SketchUp and am trying to print in Repetier-Host 0.83. The problem is when using Slic3r (default .3mm Solidoodle profile), it doesn't slice the whole model, only the feet, the rest of the model is empty. The initial outline includes part of the part's top part, but cuts part of it off as well. Everything seems ok in the design of it, and Skeinforge can slice it without issue. I've tried inverting the faces, but that doesn't change the result.

Anyone know what's going on?

Sometimes running things through Meshlab also helps.

Re: Trouble Slicing with Slic3r

Meshlab shows a ton of non-manifold edges. Looks like the way you set up the model it created extra facets that distorted the surface.  It almost looks like 3 different meshes that are in the same object, but I can't be sure.  Netfabb will clear it up quick, because cleaning this up manually will take some time.

To see the offending facets, in MeshLab, load the model and select Filters->Cleaning and Reparing->Select Non-Manifold Edges.  Click Preview and then Apply, then OK. The faces will show up as pink/red.

Hmm there isn't an easy way to deal with the offending edges?

Seems like there should be a plugin for that.

Re: Trouble Slicing with Slic3r

Thanks guys. I had been playing with Netfabb and Meshlab locally (non-cloud) and even after Netfabb fixing a few things it still was wonky. What's odd is I ended up having to resize part of it and it exported and sliced without issue, so obviously the STL exporter in SketchUp was doing something weird. All working now and I have a horizontal spool holder for my SD (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:46272) big_smile

That plugin is quite wonky.
