Topic: need stepper motor for davinci

my front stepper that runs left to right went out i can't find a replacement due to its size is smaller than the rear one. it is only 38mm long by 42 by 42. and the rear is 41.5 mm long by 42 by 42mm. so my alternative is if someone could print me the 2 brackets the one holds the stepper and the opposite that holds the pulley need to be 42mm not 38mm it needs to be 4mm wider so i can fit the replacements and have a direct replacement since i run original firmware and know nothing of changing it due to it seems way over my head. please help! for the duo. should be same bracket though in all davinci i think.

Just search ebay for a nema 17 stepper. You are sure to find your dimensions as they are standard. The trick will be finding one with the removable harness..

no they are not standard. all steppers are different and vary slightly. like this is  1.8deg.  0.9a  4 ohms resistance 9.9 mh inductance. and then the holding torque is 320 and i know that it also way different on every stepper.  i know if that's not the same it wont run at all as i said there is no adjusting so. it is upsetting cause i have a new one that is right but to long and there is no way to make it smaller lol. but it would be fairly easy to print brackets to fit the stepper motor. i will need someone to do it for me.  or cnc thinner ends for the one i bought  it seems that is where it is to thick . the center is the same. the board is slightly bigger and wont fit the other ends i looked. it is motor made by minebea co thailand 17pm-k342bp03cn  42 by 42 by 38 length. here's the pdf if anyone would be so kind to help me find one. http://www.eminebea.com/en/product/rota … pm-k.shtml

I have built printers for many years and bought parts for them as well. I can assure you that this one would work, for the axis in question the holding torque is not critical as long as it is similar. The other parameters the drivers self adjust for. The only thing you may need to change would be VREF and that would need to be changed even for an identical motor.

If somebody would like to correct me then please do. I however have not had issues as long as the step degrees are the same and the holding torque is similar.

For most printers there is a pot. On the Da Vinci it is self adjusting as the firmware controls it. That is why many are moving to Repetier as the current control is better and the motors run color and quieter. Mine was so quit I had to look to make sure it was still running while in the same room with just a computer.

Re: need stepper motor for davinci

so you are saying if i move to repetier i can then control the voltage of each individual stepper?  have you found where to do it in repetier yourself or? it seems hard switch the firmware i have that uno but i have never used one or any arduino anything yet so.

Re: need stepper motor for davinci

You will not need to change the vref. It is set very well in Repetier as it comes. The new motor properties are close to stock so that motor will be fine with stock settings with XYZ or Repetier. With Stock firmware the motors will simply be louder and wear out sooner because XYZ is over driving them.

If you chose to switch to Repetier there are plenty of guides to do so and vref is optimized out of the box.

Re: need stepper motor for davinci

its here so thats good but im a bit nervous to install it for one reason. the wires are different colors so here's a picture of them to be safe i don't want to fry my stepper drivers in it. o ri hear that could happen if power is wrong? is this true and how can i use a multimeter to check? thanks so much for all your help.http://soliforum.com/i/?Gq9H2U7.jpg     heres another  http://soliforum.com/i/?rxeswDc.jpg   the wires on the davinci are left to right yellow red blue w/black mark and last orange w/a black mark ??  help if you can the new one is left to right green blue black red it doesnt match in my opinion but im learning so im stumped here.
