Topic: DaVinci Jr - can't print anything other than sample

I'm having trouble printing anything other than the Sample that comes pre-loaded on the SD card. Right now when I try to print things from XYZ's 3D Gallery they get stuck on object slicing.

What is the best software set up and process? I'd like to be able to download things from Thingiverse to print.
I've downloaded Slic3r and attempted to mess with the gcode (is this Machine Code for the printer?) but I can't seem to convert to .3w nor do I understand how to edit the gcode properly.

My understanding is I need to download the file (what formats do they come in?), use Slic3r to slice object into layers, convert to gcode, edit gcode specific to printer, convert to .3w, open in XYZWare???


Current set up -

Hardware:
DaVinci JR  - 2.2.4
Macbook Pro - El Captain

Software:
XYZWare 2.1.2
Slic3r - configured through a variety of screenshots I've seen online.

Now getting "Object Transmitting" in XYZWare, we'll see. All the same, I'd like to have more control over this process and to take advantage of the customizations that Slic3r offers - aye it's starting to print the iPhone case I downloaded from XYZ's 3D Gallery.

There is no current port of firmware or modded software for the JR. It is still new and third party support is in process but still lacking. For now you will have to live with the XYZ chains.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Ahhhhh that's unfortunate!

How can I import objects into XYZWare from external sources? Any way?

Edit: Also can I 3D model my own objects and then export them to XYZWare?

You download from places like thingiverse, or make them in a cad program that can export to STl. Then just open the STL in XYZware and print it.

So STL is the file format for XYZWare? Great thank you

Truth be told XYZWARE is pretty functional.   When files do slice they print out pretty well.

It's when they don't slice that is really stinks.

I used it for a solid week before going to slic3r on my 1.0A.

Da Vinci 1.0a.  Repetier 0.92.  E3D V6.  Titan Extruder.  Sllic3r.  Octoprint on Raspberry Pi B+.
