Topic: DaVinci Jr Having Some Delaminating Issues, and a Question About PLA
Hi everyone.
I've been printing with my DaVinci Jr for the last 5 weeks pretty much non-stop. I've logged over 250 hours on the printer with very few failed prints. Most of my things have been smaller parts and trinkets, but I've put a few larger items in there without any issues.
However, the last few days I've been running into some delaminating problems on some larger items.
In particular, I'm trying to print a Baymax from Big Hero 6 that is split into two parts. The first time I did the bottom it printed fine almost all the way to the top (which is actually the bottom of his feet due to the way the file's split) and up near the top of the print it did SOMETHING strange...it didn't really seem like delaminating because it was exactly the same height on both legs, and went wonky, then normal, then wonky, then finished normal. I ended up running the file through NetFabb and gave it another go, and it printed really well.
I'm now trying to print the top half of Baymax, though, and I'm on my third try. The first print delaminated down near the bed...probably about 1/2" up from the bed. The second one delaminated up near the top, probably about 1/2" below his head. These ones were definitely delamination, they didn't look like the same issue that I had with the bottom half the first time.
Anyway...I have a couple of questions regarding this.
Here in Michigan the last few days have been very warm compared to how cold it had been...like, from in the 20s and 30s to 70 on Tuesday. In my house, that actually means it's COLDER in the room I print in, because the furnace hasn't been running at all. It's noticeably cooler in there than it has been over the winter, because in the winter my furnace has one of those constant velocity fans so it's constantly pumping the warm air around the house...but when it gets this warm outside, it doesn't end up really pumping any heat, so it tends to stay cold in that room.
So, is it possible that it's just gotten cool enough in the room that it's causing issues with the layer adhesion??? I'm currently trying the print a third time with a space heater in the room pointing into a corner so it just fills the whole room with warmth instead of pointing it directly at the printer.
Next, the PLA that I've been printing with seems to LOOK a bit different than the other PLA I've printed with. I've only printed with black...and the other 800m or so worth of filament has all had a shiny or glossy look to it...however, this current roll is very "matte" looking and isn't shiny at all. Would this be just PLA sourced from different suppliers, or is it possible that there is something wrong with this current roll?
Thank you for your input with this.
