Topic: Software package for S3

So I'm preparing for the eventual arrival of the S3, and I thought I'll stay a step ahead and download the software for my computer.

Going to the solidoodle website, I found the following:

http://www.solidoodle.com/how-to-2/how- … -software/

NEW: We are releasing our beta test for the Repetier host all in one installer. This is a far easier to use program some please enjoy you using it! We will post more comprehensive guides very soon. The installer (for windows only at the moment) can be found here: Windows Installer For Repetier Host.

Please note: If you have a Solidoodle 3, you must use the Repetier package above. You cannot use Pronterface.

That's all and good to have the Repetier package for windows, but is there one for OSX that can run the S3?  What are the alternatives for a Mac user (other than running windows)?

You can still download repetier from the official website. You'll have to input the settings by hand, however.
We are working on this.

Repetier does have a Mac version if you go to their actual site. http://www.repetier.com/ and download the host-Mac version.  I have been running it since I ordered my SD3 while waiting for it to show.  Testing out what makes it crash and how to use the software.  I was designing a model that would show me the limits of the printer, but the one I was doing says almost 3hrs to print and I am not done adding things.  I have it as a 140mm x 140mm x 10mm square with different size square and circular holes in it all the way down to 0.5mm.  Then the opposite with those above the block at 10mm.

There is also Mac versions of Cura, Slic3r, & KISSlicer (which is buggy video display but works).  Just in case they upgrade Slic3r or it fails and you don't want to use Skeinforge.

And I forgot to say, I am running OSX Mountain Lion v10.8.2 on a Mac Pro

Thank you both for replying so quickly.  I'll give it a shot and download it now.

Re: Software package for S3

The latest version of repetier did not run on my Mac.
I've got a late 2009 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. Looks like I'll have to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

I've been holding it off for a while because of potential compatibility issues with some older software.

I haven't tried it on my oldest Mac yet, but it runs fine on my 2008 Mac Pro.  I will try my 2006 Mac Pro tomorrow and see if it works there, running OSX 10.7 there, since apple decided not to make it go higher even though faster then most other iMac and Mac minis

Ok I tried running on my 2006 Mac Pro running OSX 10.7.5 and Repetier v0.51 & v0.52 works perfectly.

Thanks for the update

My MBP is installing Mountain Lion as we speak.

Is there a place where I can get particular repetier settings for the S3? Or is it pretty much the same as the S2, but for the size?

Anyway hope your printer comes soon. Thanks for the help.

Re: Software package for S3

I haven't received mine yet, but I am guessing its the same except for the bed size.  Ian's YouTube channel has the setting for both Repetier and Slic3r.  I have been playing around with just the software for a few weeks now.  I would suggest downloading 123d Design from the App Store, it works pretty well and is free.  If you have an iPad they have a version for that too that is also free, so you can modify or add there.  Only problem is they haven't added back in the import STL from heir beta they had.  But if you are creating new stuff it isn't a problem.

Re: Software package for S3

Hi

So I now have Mountain Lion installed on my MBP, with Repetier 0.52 (the latest I could find).

I have been punching in the data for the S3 in accordance with the pdf instructions for Mac/Linux found in the zip file here.

http://www.solidoodle.com/how-to-2/how- … -software/

A couple of differences I've noted between the instructions from Solidoodle and Repetier. (I do note that I am using "Virtual printer".  So please correct me if these differences are caused by this setting.)

- At instruction (5) - Connection tab: In v0.52, there is an additional check box titled "Firmware sends OK after error".  Should this be checked?

- At instruction (6) - Printer shape (Called "Dimensions" in 0.52 for virtual printer) For "Home Z" there is only a check box for "Home is at Z Max" in 0.52.  I assume not checking it will make it "home as min" as per the solidoodle instructions?

- At instruction (6) - Printer dump area depth. In 0.52, there is no "Dump Area Depth" as shown in the solidoodle instructions.  Instead 0.52 has Dump area height.  Should Dump area height be 200mm?

- At instruction (7) - Printer/Behaviour - The solidoodle instructions show "park position" and values (145, 145, 15) for it.  In 0.52, this is "dump position".  Do these terms refer to the same thing?

And I think a minor tweak of the Slic3r settings would be required to ensure the bed size is 200 x 200 instead of the standard S2 size provided in the .ini file.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have your printer hooked up then you won't see the correct com port, that will need to be set once you get your printer.

There is no dump position, at least from what I have read although some people have made the front left corner the dumping area.

As for as the rest, go to http://m.youtube.com/feed/UCIdXEJdOG4_JWPI7LRzs-jA. That should take you to Ian's YouTube page and follow most of what his setting are for Repetier and Sic3r. The main things that will change are print bed size and center.
