Topic: Assembly Help

Hello all,

I got my new filastruder and I am reading the instructions and it seems to be "missing" or jumping from steps.....or maybe im just reading it wrong.

1. Is there a detailed video step by step that users can follow?

2. My Auger screw (i think thats what its called...the big ugly one that turns...lol) doesnt protrude out as described in the manual.....not at all)

3. Can I see a picture of where the thermocouple wire is connected to on the nozzle...I want to solder it on somewhere, but if i am not suppose to I will await an answer.

4. After wiring everything together, the PID turns on for like 3 seconds then automatically shuts off....

Any help (I am a very visual person), thank you for taking the time to read this and potentially helping me with this.

Re: Assembly Help

1.) No video, just the assembly PDF. If you find that a step is missing, let me know and I'd be happy to add it!

2.) It is likely that something is assembled improperly, a few photos of your setup would be helpful.

3.) This is covered in step 5 of the electrical section:

5.)    Insert thermocouple into hole on hex flat of nozzle.. Secure with kapton tape, metal zip tie, or pipe clamp. Connect the thermocouple to the controller by sliding it under the screws. Observe polarity.

4.) That sounds like there's a short somewhere, go over the wiring, check for stray wires, etc. The power supply automatically shuts down if overloaded.

When it has shut off, do you still have 12 volts coming out of the power supply? If your power supply has a green LED, is it lit?

Here are some photos:

Motor Wired

So I soldered everything and now it (PID) turns on just fine, but the motor wont turn. When I go to turn on the motor...it loses power, then it starts twitching power (the fan will literally barely start jumping and the back stall protection board barely blips with the fan twitching).

Any ideas?

Re: Assembly Help

I meant photos of how it was assembled mechanically, sorry. That way I can help figure out why the auger wasn't sticking out.

Those photos are very small - 320 x 240 pixels. Could you take some higher resolution photos if you need help with the wiring, please? It looks like the switches are wired incorrectly, but I can't tell due to the photo quality.

The stall protection board looks incorrect as well - I'd expect two red wires at the positive terminal, two black wires at the negative terminal. One red and one black go to the fan, the other red goes to the center pin of Switch 2, while the other black goes to Pin 10 of the PID controller.

Why solder to the switches when there's spade terminals provided?

Here are the photos assembled

Re: Assembly Help

Update, just remeasured and it wasnt at 84.5....

Re: Assembly Help

So i rechecked wires as stated and it is all going to the correct places (i used a black wire instead of a red wire...but it is going to the correct place).

I soldered them because I had more than one wire going to a switch point (i can easily remove if need be....)

Re: Assembly Help

Questions continue...

1. I ordered a filastruder and filawinder and they both came in the same box...

there are two power cables, in which this is the one i was using for the filastruder....is this the correct one or should it be the other one that has the light on it.http://soliforum.com/i/?t1rLB0I.jpg:

2. my nozzle (1.75mm) came with the melt filter already out, i am trying to put this thing in but it wont fit.

clarifying that it is suppose to be inside WITH the mesh correct?

Re: Assembly Help

Are things better with it at 84.5mm? I can see you've got some room to slide the shaft collar a few millimeters towards the motor. This will move the tip of the auger out, it only needs to stick out a couple millimeters. Your assembly looks good otherwise, though you can peel the tape off the parts to make them cleaner.

The big power supply is for the Filastruder, the small one is for the Filawinder. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear, I thought big motor + heater = big power supply. big_smile If you cut up the wrong power supply and can't get it spliced back together, let me know via email and I'll get you another one.

That ring is called a C-clip. There are special pliers you can use, but I've done them before with normal pliers. Just takes a bit of patience and eye protection of course, as they will sometimes go flying. C-clips are spring loaded in order to stay in place. Yes, it should be in with the mesh, to hold the mesh in place. They aren't preinstalled because if the need arises to swap the filter, you'll need a way to install the C-clip yourself anyway.

Re: Assembly Help

BAM! changed out power supplies (soldered it back) and it kicked right up! Thank you elmoret for all the help!

Re: Assembly Help

I am back. So i am attempting to do my first filament extrusion and when I go to se tthe Sestos PID it flashes "orAL" and 1312 and it never changes temperature. I looked on the forum and this happened to someone else and it was said that they have their polarity wrong on the temperature sensor.........is this talking about the "fork prong" that is on spot 3/4 of the PID?

12

Re: Assembly Help

It actually looks like you have the sensor connected correctly, in which case "orAl" would mean that the sensor is broken somewhere in the cable or at the tip. You could try flipping over the connector though, wouldn't hurt to try.

Did it ever display a temperature?

13

Re: Assembly Help

No temp...still oral

14

Re: Assembly Help

Then that indicates the wire is broken somewhere, usually it happens at the tip of the sensor.

Happy to replace it if that's the case, get in touch via email. Do inspect the thermocouple to verify that it is the problem, please.

So i whipped out my trusty multimeter and soldered the end of the K thermocouple (there use to be a glob of solder at the end and i  noticed it was missing). So i resoldered the ends together, verified continuity to the PID....and then

It started rising like the heat of the phoenix!

Re: Assembly Help

can someone make a video to assemble the wiring because i dont understand. i will pay 20 to whoever can make a video that i can understand and make my filastruder. PLZ HELP

Re: Assembly Help

Aspike- did you not download the diagram and assembly instructions? They can be found here http://www.soliforum.com/topic/2036/fil … stl-files/

The wiring may seem a bit daunting if you haven't done it before, but it's not too difficult. Take your time with the diagram. Focus on each individual pin at a time and trace back which lines connect to the given terminal.
We are all here to help, so there is no need to post multiple times on several threads. smile

im better at visual. if i can see someone do it i can get it done. i dont understand cutting the big power box.

Re: Assembly Help

We all process information differently, and I prefer to learn by watching as well. But you will still need to learn this for maintenance purposes. Give a couple days to view the schematics and process...I know that's what I did.
