When I switch from ABS to PLA my Head is too close and doesn't want to print how can I lower the bed for PLA?
You would turn the adjusters equal turns each to the needed level. If you calibrate correctly neaning manually and not trusting the built in method which is faulty then your bed should be correct regardless of material used.
That's what I thought. It must be settings. Every time I pray each one I have to fine-tune the bed So it will print. Doesn't make sense. What is the distance from the first layer for PLA?
Still having problems with the first layers. Is there a way I can see somebody slicer settings? I put .06 for first layer and it still seems like it's to close and won't print every time I print. What should Z home and be in the EEPROM settings? I did mess with those settings before.
.06 is a little small
What should it be?
depends on where you have your bed z limit set. I run mine at .3
optimally You should have it set to half your layer height.
I have 3 feeler gauges .05 .1 and 15 or you can just use the .15 and the .1.
I mostly print at .2 and will sometimes print at .1 using the same leveling I used with .2 layer height
What should I run my bed X limit set to? I think that's what's screwing me up. Also I used a business card to level my bed. Right now I'm pruning and I can see it in the nozzle is way too close. I have it set for .02
X should not have anything to do with bed height that is z
and I'm not sure what you mean.
my z home is 0 if that's what you mean
.02 is still too close... What layer thickness are you using for your print? That is the first question. Once you answer that, you then set your bed so the nozzle is half that height above the bed.. For example..
Print height = .3, bed height = .15
Print height = .2, bed height = .10
Print height = .1, bed height = .05
There are no other measurements or math involved in this.. You simply level your bed first and make sure it is the same height in the middle and at each corner. You then adjust the height using feeler gauges. Or alternatively you can adjust and level at the same time if you are sure your bed is truly level and not bowed like some are.
You said you used a business card to level, so what is set to .02? The gap should not be set to anything.. You set the bed height in software and printer settings to zero then adjust the height using a feeler gauge, instead of a business card and the levelers. The idea here is that when your nozzle moves to zero, it is actually at .2 or whatever due to you setting the height with the adjusters and a known thickness like a feeler gauge.
I have had the same phenomenon for a while now (actually since i started printing PLA, now that i think of it...). I assume the source of this are the different temperatures of the glass bed (90°C for ABS, 50°C for PLA). The Bed is expanding a bit more (upwards) at 90°C, and so the head comes closer to the bed.
Since i am using Repetier firmware (the printer is a Da Vinci 1.0, first generation) and OctoPrint, my solution is simple. Once the bed is leveled correctly (no matter for what material) i just change the Z offset when i switch the material. The difference is about 0.3mm and i have some custom controls to change the Z offset in Octoprint, which i use to control the printing.
