Topic: Ship Time question

Greetings.

First my question.    Just waiting on HRBlock to confirm my tax return deposit and I'll be pulling the trigger on a Solidoodle purchase.

How are you folks doing on the ship-times?   I'm interested in a Second Gen Pro and a spool of material shipped to Buffalo.

It's for a business venture I am getting off the ground,  the sooner it gets here the better!

6-8 weeks on a SD2.

Re: Ship Time question

There has been a long history of delayed shipping if you read through the site, that seems to have been corrected now as they experienced the growing pains and they are now shipping according to their quoted times on the website.

That's why I am asking.    I took one look at the price and said "what's the catch."   Turns out it was the shipping time,  that's why I waited until my tax return cleared...  figured I'd wait a few months rather than borrow money and have it go up in smoke.  tongue

Ideally I would like to have the printer inhouse before my UI runs out,  so I can at least be making and selling custom buttons to support myself.   I currently mold them by "hand" using a drill-press-mounted plastic injection molding device.

Standard round? or custom shapes?

Either way, there will be a learning curve before you start getting results you like.  Not that you won't start seeing results immediately, but you may have some tweaking to do to get the machine to output it the way that you want.

Don't let it discourage you!  You may not want to get rid of the injection kit as you may be able to produce stuff that you can use for the molds.  Besides, having more of your ideas come to life is a really big advantage!

Re: Ship Time question

Both machines working together will enable me to get some ideas off the ground.   Both processes have advantages and disadvantages.     Used to work for a company that did both...  BIG honking SLI and Sintering style machines as well as state of the art injection molding technology.  we made some amazing stuff by harnessing both processes, and CNC milling.

That's my background.   Plastics.    Materials specifically.      Eventually once I see enough consumer-oriented business for these machines ("one in every home") I intend to rock the world with material innovations.    Some folks are getting there now,  but they are hackers and makers.    In order to really kick things off,   someone needs to build upon that groundwork.

In order to get to the point where there is one in every home...  people need a reason to buy one.    That's the main thrust of my efforts for the time being.   I'll be detailing that in another thread once I get an answer from the admins.

Re: Ship Time question

Actually if you go to all the actually shipping ones,  or kickstarters they have about an 8 week lead time except for a couple, I think Cubify is the rare ready to ship one, but the least configurable and special filament cartridge system.

Re: Ship Time question

Solidoodle is the only one I can afford that has the features I need... without having to build a kit.

Hopefully Solidoodle continues to market a low-cost ready-to-use printer like this,  it's far easier to scrape up money for this than a Makerbot.

Re: Ship Time question

I ordered my SD2 Expert about three days after Christmas, and received it on 2/4/2013.  Total wait time was just over a month.  I was very pleasantly suprised.

Make sure you add this to the chart on the wiki page so we can see the improvement.  Cheers to SD for getting these times way down.

I second that.
