Do you have time to build your own?

SD2 Sanguinololu 1.3a atmega1284p, wood platform, lawsy's carriages, braided fishing line, pallet wood overhead spool mount, carboard/magnet enclosure, glass bed, E3D v6, bed levelling knobs, extended z-stop, 25A DC-DC SSR for bed heater, everything fixed to the SD2 frame, marlin firmware with some adjustments and extra failsafes enabled.  I'll never give up on you, little printer that could(n't)!

If time and expertise to build your own, and you have that much, build a Volcanus Corexy http://www.instructables.com/id/Vulcanu … -3D-Print/

With a printer that size you'll need the left-over money to buy lots of filament big_smile.

I'm not sure what's worth getting prebuilt.  $1250 is the mid-low end of the quality spectrum in that case.

Check this: http://www.dynamism.com/c/3d-printers/robox

$1499 but sure sounds good. I'd say if it does what they claim, it's worth every penny. But that's just me.

the problem I have with the Robox is that it is a proprietary system - you are tied to using their stuff - filament, software, etc.

Not something I am willing to do. What happens if they were to go under? (like so many others)

it wouldnt really matter to me, personally, so much, as I am not afraid to rip it apart and mod to suit my needs - but that is not an option for a lot of people

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1
Printit Industries Beta Tester - Horizon H1

Their software is integrated, true. But you have your choice of using their Smart Reels (or whatever they call them) that tell the printer what material, heat, speed etc. to configure for automatically or use any, I guess Dumb, Reels of filament you want.

It also has a 2-yr warranty, so hey.

This summary is pretty good;
http://3dforged.com/best-3d-printers/

The Flashforge Creator Pro and QIDI Tech 1 dual extruder printers are well rated and reviewed.
Priced at $1099 and $799.

Metal frame so better than some cheaper versions that are plywood.
