Re: Need help With PLA

That's a layer fan. so while it will help for bridging and layer cooling it will not help on the heat creep for that you need to add additional heat removal from the  hot end. you can do that by adjusting the airflow and by adding heat sinks

Re: Need help With PLA

Do you have a link on how to do it. I cant find it anywhere.

Re: Need help With PLA

I have a 1.0A, which supposedly can do PLA.   I have had zero luck doing it.

More the time and effort to add heatsinks and fans, probably better to upgrade to a better extruder...

Or stick to ABS.

Re: Need help With PLA

for adding heat sinks just get the ones like this http://www.amazon.com/uxcell-20mm-Alumi … =heat+sink
or something  similar. don't forget the glue http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Alu … k+adhesive

then just glue them on the metal bar that the hot end is on. this will help remove more heat.  if you can try positioning the sinks to where the current fan will blow over them.  you ma even want to design a shroud to force the air to move over them.

this thread can also give you some ideas of what to try

Re: Need help With PLA

Thanks. I just installed this and still no luck.  http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:623274.  But it did go for a little longer this time.
I haven't yet installed the heat sinks do you think it will be much better ?

8

Re: Need help With PLA

Yah the addition heat sinks should help a lot

9

Re: Need help With PLA

Well I just did it put it back together and started a print we shall see what it does.  The only thing different was that heat sinks had sticky bottoms  and I only have thermal paste not adhesive.

Re: Need help With PLA

No go.  I still can't get it to work what is my other option and how easy is it to do?

11

Re: Need help With PLA

Well the only other option I know of is to swap out the hot end. You can get a new hot end from xyz, or  you could put a e3d v6/lite or any other j head hot end in if you wanted its not to difficult.

Personally I like the v6 variants if you rent going to go in for the more exotic filaments the e3d v6 lite is a good option that isn't to expensive.  You don't have to print a new carriage you just need to print some parts to adapt the current one you are using.

Re: Need help With PLA

I had my 1.0 working pretty well with the heatsink mod but after a few months it became unreliable.
Possibly due to a worn nozzle but I just couldn't get it working reliably again.
I gave up on it and switched to an E3D v6 Lite, best move I ever made !
It prints everything I've chucked at it so far beautifully and never jams, unless I do something stupid like set the wrong temp.

Re: Need help With PLA

Yes.
Can't be certain that's not a clone although it certainly looks like the real thing.

All clones look like the real thing, lol. Is that the light, or the full version? I like the price!

Re: Need help With PLA

The point being, there are some "clones" out there that are fairly obviously not the real deal. roll
The Lite has a red fan duct.

Edit: On closer inspection, it's a clone. The thermistor is nothing like the genuine E3D one.

Re: Need help With PLA

I ended up buying this one. 12v right?

Re: Need help With PLA

Yes, 12v is correct for the Davinci.
And that's a geniune E3D. wink

Re: Need help With PLA

Who cares about the thermistor? It would probably be easier to use the one that comes with the Divinci anyways.

I am severely tempted by the clone

I can assure you, it isn't.

Re: Need help With PLA

buy the real deal. a clone will have a Bowden adapter that is required to be used most times as well. the real deal will work with a bowden or direct with out having to have the Bowden adapter (for 1.75 mm anyway).

I try and support the people doing the innovation so I like buying genuine. my e3d v6 and my cyclops are genuine I got them from matterhakers

22

Re: Need help With PLA

And yes that is one initially  linked is a clone not what you want if you want to use the extruder stl files that are designed for the e3d. you can tell by the Bowden adapter on the top

23

Re: Need help With PLA

It's being shipped now.   I printed the STL files and thinking about tearing down the printer.  I need to find 12 V somewhere right?  Anyone know where one is on the board on the 1.0?

24

Re: Need help With PLA

The main connecters on the mother board you will see +12 v and gnd tap into those.

Totally agree.
Be careful tapping into the 12v. I've heard of people wrecking the mainboard attempting that.
It was for that reason I used an external 12v power supply for my E3D fan.
