Topic: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

With the bowden setup prints can be faster. So far up 80mm/sec.

However, the X stepper motor is noisy at the faster speeds. Either this is the motor or driver.
Seems to be some frequency vibration noise.

Will isolating the motor from the carriage make much difference?

Or Mainboard ? Motor ?

Not sure about isolating the stepper but you could try the vibration dampers on Thingiverse.
I found they made quite a difference with x and y steppers.

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

I have 1/16 silicone rubber sheet. Concerned about moving the X motor 1/16 back .
That will move the drive pulley also, mis-aligning the belt.

5hr of this noise, cant think.

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

I didn't find any issue printing them with semi-flex.
X axis still seems fine.

These DaVs are not fabricated for this type of abuse.

Still in all, print in almost 3rd the time w/ about any filament:

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

You are expecting too much from this machine. It is not made even with your bowden mod to do more than 60. That is even the published max speed I believe. If you want 80 or more you should be looking into Delta/Kossel setups. 80 is getting close to the limit for Cartesian type printers with the NEMA 17 motors.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

carl_m1968, Im very aware of the speeds.
6hr PLA print, .3 layer,  60 mm/sec. No probs.
Motors were only warm.

Solved: The silicone strips between the X axis motor and carriage seemed to quiet
it considerably.
Still have some other vibrations here and there on fast travel speed. I still believe its motor frequency.

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

It's been mentioned here before that the stock mainboard doesn't do a very good job of controlling the steppers.
Some folk have switched it out for another board and found it made the steppers much quieter.

I was reading about that. I built a modded CNC mill. So a little familiar about drivers/steppers.

What board is being used ? So many different versions.

I myself and most others used the RAMPS 4.1 With very good results.. My 1.0 was so quite I had to keep looking over at it while in the same room with just a very quite PC to make sure it was still running.

I see alot mentioned about RAMBo.

Whats the main difference between the 2 ?

Re: Noisy X Stepper Fast Print

the Rambo is basicly a Arduino and the ramps remixed into a single board.
