Topic: Aceton and ABS help secure my model

Had a model that was tough to print. After days of trying I found an article of dissolving 100% Acetone that I bought at home depot and some ABS scrapes from printing. I put it in a glass jar and a couple hours later it was melted.

I took a que tip and rubbed the slurry on the tape covering my print bed. After 3 hours the part finished successfully!! But FYI that part was on there and very tough to remove. It tore part of the tape with it but there was NO warping and any issues with the model. So for tough parts I will use this slurry, I recumbent it.

Nice idea! Thats a clever way of ensuring print bed adhesion.

So do you not have a heated bed or did you combine the heated bed with the acetone slurry?

With the new material I got on Amazon I set the extruder to 235 and left the bed at 90, which was default. But in further testing and reprinting that part I tried Scotch brand blue painters tape. It also has a very firm hold I had just a tiny bit of warpage but it was really on the bed. I would try the blue tape first, you can buy it at a home depot where I got mine. The slurry had zero warping, period but was also the hardest to remove from the bed and there was some tape that came of on the model, but the piece was perfect.

I will tell you same thing I will tell everyone else that has bonding to bed issues, get a Zebra Plate, I will never go back to other ways and all the mess to have a chance at good bonding. Google it, watch the You-tube videos of print large items with very small bed contact areas. I only use ABS and we all know that is hardest to get to stick.

I knew about the dissolved ABS in Acetone and would have tried it if all else failed just didn't want to deal with the mess if I didn't have to.
