Topic: FreeLSS updates

First of all, I recently picked up the Atlas3D and have got it put together nicely...  Still learning things about it and the "best" way to use it, but so far am happy with the results.  However I do have a couple of things I'd like to throw out there for discussion.

The first is that getting updates for me is a pain...  I don't have home access to high speed internet (only dial-up and at 26,400 bps any work takes a loooooooooong time), so in order to be able to perform system updates I purchased a second Pi (I have the Raspberry Pi 2 installed and this gave me the excuse I was looking for to justify the purchase of another on top of the B model that I already had).  I then take the microSD card out of the Pi in the acrylic chassis, install it in the other unit and bring that unit to work in order to perform the updates.  Would it be possible to set up some sort of update facility that can be used by folks like myself, such as downloading the deb files from a password protected site?  With something like this I can download the packages at work and apply them at home via a USB stick.  Getting high speed at home isn't an option for me; my local provider can't get me decent wireless signal and cable/DSL isn't offered where I live.

Secondly the build instructions for the acrylic case could use some more illustrations; I ended up taking it apart a few times as I put some stuff in backwards initially (in particular the camera).  As well a pointer to the description of adjusting the focus would be useful in the assembly instructions.

Lastly, is it possible to access the I2c pins on the raspberry?  Since I don't have high speed internet at home the Pi can't perform an NTP sync to set the system time.  I'd like to be able to connect one of the I2c real time clocks to it to do time keeping if possible.

Thanks for the I2C response.  Actually what I was more after was if the signals are physically accessible since all of the pins on the RasPi header are otherwise taken up by the cable.  I didn't see any access to them through the electronics board.

Going back to original problem that prompted the thread. 

FreeLSS updates are only about 800K.  Even on a sloooow modem such as what you mentioned, it would only take 4 minutes or less to download the update. 

Isn't that a lot simpler than trying to go about it the way you are?

Pirvan, thanks for the info.  If the updates are that small then that shouldn't be a problem.  I've been used to updates that measure in the 10s of MBytes, so dial-up updates haven't been an option.
