Topic: best software for solidoodle 2 windows XP netbook

For my solidoodle 2 I have a slow old netbook running Repetier Host 0.85b and Slic3r 1.1.7.  Should I just stick with this or have new and better things been invented since I started using this in 2012?

SD2 Sanguinololu 1.3a atmega1284p, wood platform, lawsy's carriages, braided fishing line, pallet wood overhead spool mount, carboard/magnet enclosure, glass bed, E3D v6, bed levelling knobs, extended z-stop, 25A DC-DC SSR for bed heater, everything fixed to the SD2 frame, marlin firmware with some adjustments and extra failsafes enabled.  I'll never give up on you, little printer that could(n't)!

I would upgrade but place it in a different folder. I ran .85 along with the latest version in my old netbook until I got the hang of the latest version and all the updated slic3r settings.

there are a lot more features in the latest repieter-host that are worth looking into.

newest version you can run on same PC as older versions is 95f. its why my newest version is on dif PC ATM

the newer versions require removing all older versions to install them so be sure and find and backup your Slic3r profiles so you can stick them in new versions folder

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

I run the latest RH, & Slicer on an older Toshiba Satellite with an AMD 64 bit 2.0, 4G ram on Win7 Pro.  Runs the same speed as my Win 10 HP 3.9 I5 12G, Win 8.1 I5 16G or IMac OSX 16G.  In fact it runs more stable on the lap.  The lap won't upgrade to Win10 cuz the vid card is not enough.  The speed is in the connection, the g-code is already compiled before the print starts.
