Hollowing out a 3D Model is a re-mesh of the 3D model, emptying out the core, which will lead to less material waste, lower the cost of 3D Print, and saves print time.

Is this for home printing?  I think if you remove top solid layers and set infill to 0, then slic3r will treat your model as hollow (not sure if that works with supports and stuff).

i think that is meant more for getting things printed by shapeways and the like.

for home printing it is easily accomplished in your slicer settings, but yeah, supporting upper structures can be an issue depending on the model you are printing.

Yes 0% infill on a slicer achieves the same results. However, infill is useful so Im not sure why anyone would want a completely hollow print apart from on a couple of special occasions perhaps.

this feature is not same as setting slicer infil to zero. it changes the STL b4 slicing. I used it on a solid model I wanted hollow and its cool what you can doeven leaving part or all of the bottom floor of part.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

I thought somebody done this in an earlier topic. cant find it in search. it may have been on another 3D site I use. had youtube video also if I remember. this is a very cool feature in meshmixer

This is mainly if you plan to 3D print with powder such as sandstone. This is automated so it's much easier to use and the end result of your model will also be fixed.

I done this on a 2 half model because I wanted to print it clear and paint parts that are not glass/windows and do an interior and I dont have a powder 3D printer. just my SD2
