Topic: X-Axis motor wire harness needed

Well, after much trouble shooting I've found the issue with my printer. If I push up and move around the wires that go to the x-axis motor it will stop the chattering and follow the correct path to printing the project, I think there is a break in one of the wires..
My question is: where can I get a replacement wire harness? Or is there a part number to something generic I can purchase and make work? I would need the clip on the right side of the motor and the wire. Is it 22ga wire?

I this was initially posted eight months ago, but I have this exact same problem. I have tried fruitlessly to fix the wiring harness. Is there some kind of replacement harness available? Or does anyone know what kind of connectors these are (both at the motor and end stop, and at the motherboard)?

First you want to determine if the problem is in the wiring or not.

I havent looked much at them but I would imagine you could swap the wire with the y axis motor, and if that fixes your problem then you know the wire is the problem.  If it doesn't then the problem is either the motor or the motherboard.

I would then next swap the motors.  If that fixes the problem then the motor is what needs to be replaced.

If neither of those fix the problem I would try plugging the working motor and wire into the motherboard in place of the non working.  If that doesn't work your motherboard is the problem.  (In fact this is the first step I would do)

Motors are your easiest fix.  Then wires.  MB good luck.

Have you isolated the problem to the wires?

Thanks for the response, Telemachus. Yes, pretty sure it's the wires. The x axis stutters when the gantry reaches a particular point and stutters more often if you wiggle the harness while it's moving. I've already spliced two other wires in that area, but because the intermittent open is in the area where the wire flexes, solder splicing is a poor solution, so I would like to replace the whole length. The harness is not that long, but it does have tricky crimp-type connectors - JST's of some type, I think.

One of the wires I repaired was for the end stop, and ideally, I would like to replace that harness too.

When I have wires that need replacing I use Ethernet wire its pretty good

USB is actually better. It is designed to be more flexible than network.

Maplin or Digikey would likely have the connectors.  You would need crimpers as well.

I don't have mine open, can you included a picture of the connector?

I ended up using a USB cable - thanks for tip carl_m1968.

I ended up cutting the ends off the existing cable. At the stepper, I soldered the connector wires to the USB cable and bundle tied them so the solder joints would not be moved when the axis moved. On the motherboard side, I mounted a terminal block to connect the USB harness to the short bit of cable that connects it to the motherboard. My machine is back in business.

I had problems with one of my  DaVinci 1.0 printers that had problems with x-axis as if it were stuttering and jerked and tested with another stepper by switching the plugs on the board with the y-axis and the x stepper still had problems. I took my meter and tested continuity of the wires for the x-axis harness and found 1 wire had no connection. I cut the wire about 2 inches from the connectors and soldered a new wire and covered with heat shrink and secured to harness and now it works fine.
