Topic: Positive experience with SD support!

Just wanted to share my positive experience with support. Emailed them about getting a spare frame/chassis. They replied quickly (within 24 hours) with a price, shipped it a day or two later, and here it is at my house, two days after I sent payment:

I also got a chance to try out their new hotend, seems to work great - as good or better than my QU-BD hotend I've been using. Currently printing with 100mm/s infill, 80mm/s perimeters, no skipping from the extruder motor. Smoked a little on first heat up, and had a piece of filament in it, presumably to keep anything from getting stuck inside it during shipping. All was packed well and survived the trip. Well done, Solidoodle! Very impressed.

Hmm, wondering if they'd send me a SD3 frame and I can make a frankendoodle3.

I don't see why not. They'd probably sell you the longer print carriage and rods, too. Should be all you need, a bigger aluminum plate of course but you can get that on your own. Should be doable for $200 ish.

Interesting...

What are you going to do with the extra frame?

I'm seeing an overall more positive vibe on this forum now that more of us have our printers smile

+1  they really have worked their way back in the approval department. They've always been responsive with me, but I'm happy to see the general impression improving. It is impressive that they are continuing to provide the printer at the price point and improving it regularly along with the customer service.

Re: Positive experience with SD support!

Once my finances work themselves out, I would like to get an SD3.

(Who wouldn't want their finances to just work themselves out on their own, after all?)

I think Solidoodle as a company have learned a lot about not only manufacturing, but also retailing their product to their end users. It takes a LOT of work, and most of what can be learned is learned on the fly.

Just sent the case in to be powdercoated - a local shop quoted me $65 for semi-gloss black.

Re: Positive experience with SD support!

You got it.

One thing I'm curious about will be fitting the y-bearings, since they have to be interference fit. He said the coating is ~6 mils thick, so about 0.15mm. It seems the bearing holes are 12.7mm in diameter, which makes it a little tricky to fit a 12mm or 13mm bearing. I had him plug the holes for the screws into the frame, but am not doing anything about the rest of the holes - I figure I can grind the coating out of the hole if I need them bigger, or leave the coating on if I need them smaller. The hole should be 12.4mm in diameter after the powder coating. Should be interesting!
