Topic: Printer is printing off the bed

I have a da vinci 1.0 running stock j firmware.  I recently starting having an issue where the printer when moving to the right side of the bed would start printing off the bed and extruder head would start shaking like it was trying to move further right than it should be.  I have swapped around the x and y axis sensors and have tried checking the wire harness on both the x axis motor and y axis motor.  They both seem to be fine. I am stumped as what would be causing this issue.  If I print something in the center of the bed it seems to print fine.  I have posted a video so that you can see what it is doing.  Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Printer is printing off the bed

Mine started printing off the other side of the bed one day after a print had gone wrong and it was powered off. I'm not sure what happened. I was using Repetier 0.91 firmware, not stock. I ended up having to change the x and y home positions (something you can do in Repetier but stock or XYZware as far as I know). Somewhere in there a resistor back by the 12v input blew, and I had to bypass it as well (not sure if that's related, but something happened to throw x and y off so maybe it shorted something too).

If you want to upgrade to Repetier firmware (I did a couple weeks ago, and have used my printer more since then than I did the previous year on stock firmware/software), watch this. I wasted hours trying another upgrade method until I found this video and completed it in the last few minutes of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wDlD2u5tVc

I also got v1.0 firmware from here: https://github.com/luc-github/Repetier- … g/v1.0-RC1

Re: Printer is printing off the bed

I unplug it from the wall. leave it off for 10 minutes.  See if set itself back to factory.

unplugging it did not work.  I can try to flash it with Repetier to see if that fixes it.  I just wasnt sure if it was problem with one of the wire harnesses losing connection at random times even though they seemed to test fine.

I had that and it was the wire coming off the X axis motor. A new cable fixed it.

Is there somewhere I can buy a new cable?

Re: Printer is printing off the bed

It could be an issue with wiring.  If you have the ability you could check the plugs to make sure they are connected and if that does not work see if there are any breaks in the wiring harnesses (check for continuity).

Re: Printer is printing off the bed

I checked all the motor wire harnesses last night for continuity and they all seemed to check out fine.  There were no wires where I didnt see continuity.  I even tried to wiggle a few while testing and they still seemed fine.  It only happens if I print something on that one side of the bed so I guess it could be one of the wire harnesses but since they all seem to test fine I wouldnt know which one to replace if one of them is actually going bad.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what it might be?

Re: Printer is printing off the bed

I swapped around the wire harness with the y axis motor harness and when jogging the y axis it caused the same issue I was having with the x axis so it seems that the harness is bad even though I have continuity through all the wires. Does any one know somewhere I can buy a similar harness?

There is person parting out his Da Vinci look around here as he posted a few days ago. I think his name is RC1. Otherwise your only option is to build one yourself.

Here is his post, shoot him a PM..
