The Repetier firmware package that you downloaded from github has 2 files (variants.cpp and USBcore.cpp) inside the folder src/ArduinoDUE/AdditionalArduinoFiles/....

Copy those 2 files into the Arduino software installation folder (C:/Program Files/Arduino/hardware/arduino/sam/....) in the same places where those existing 2 files are.  Let me know if that makes sense.

Update arduino files (variants.cpp and USBcore.cpp) with the ones prensent in src\ArduinoDUE\AdditionalArduinoFiles\1.5.8. NOTE: You do not need to compile arduino from source these files are in the arduino directory structure. On Mac you will need to right click on the Arduino.app to Show Package Contents.

Where/how do I update the files? I have them downloaded, but can't find where to put them in the package contents, or is there something else I need to do to load them?

You really should just get on Ebay and buy yourself an old cheap 50 dollar laptop running windows. You will find life on 3D printer and hacking them much easier that way.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

I've decided to try and flash the 1.0.1 firmware on my new da vinci (J37 version) with repetier .92.
But in the installation-directions it says:
Once flash is done do not forget to send G-Code M502 then M500 from repetier's Print Panel tab or from the printer menu "Settings/Load Fail-Safe" and accept to save the new eeprom settings.

What should I do ? Are there a more detailed instructions for "beginners"?

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

On your LCD control panel, go to settings -> Load Fail-Safe -> OK
OR
From Repetier Host, connect to printer, go to manual control tab, enter M502 in the text box and hit send.  Then enter M500 and hit send.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

hi all, i have a da vinci 1.0A, with 1.0.3, I want to upgrade to repetier but I am worried that it is too difficult. I am pretty good with computers, but not very experienced with 3d printers. Does anyone know if their is a step by step guide on how to change it?

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

Had the same problem, but now my new da vinci (with new motherboard with reset-jumper: J37), is running great on repetier .92
I strongly recommend this guide:

thanks, that guide was a lot of help, very easy to do. I havent done it yet, but i was wondering if their were any issues with the change, such as temperatures of calibration.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

I do the flash procedure (0.92 flavor)
and in arduino IDE it finishes successfully
but
afterwards  -- unknown usb port
NO arduino shows in serial ports

I have to load via bossac and bin file to get it back

What am I doing wrong?

You dont have the Arduino drivers installed for your port. What Adruino ise and what the software use is different. Also once you flash to Repetier host you can no longer use XYZware and must use Repetier Host. I am not dure if Simplify 3D will work with Repetier firmware.

I can verify that Simplify3D does in fact work with the Repetier firmware - I use it every day. You will give up direct control of the printer from Simplify3D, at least in the default config. I'm not certain if it's possible to reconfigure S3D to regain control of the printer from the app - I switched to Octoprint for printer control.

Only if I can get repetier on it. They have the new ones so locked down that even with S3d I can't control the temps or speeds.

I know that S3D don't affect the temps setting because that settings are on the ship of the cartridges. So if you try a PLA cartridges will use the temps for PLA.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

Hello...

I recently flashed my DaVinci with Repetier .92 and absolutely love it, but have a couple of questions:

- How can I make S3D to connect automatically to the printer?? Every time I open S3D I have to manually connect the software to the printer, even the baud reates are the same on the printer and the software 115200 (On stock firmware, it just connected automatically)

- Is there any way in S3D to just "send" the file to the printer, so I can disconnect the USB or just shut down the computer? On Repetier, now S3D has to be connected all the time during printing (on stock firmware, it just sent the file and the printer did the rest)

Don't get me wrong , I LOVE Repetier on my DaVinci...it's just those two things that I would like to have on my printer...

Thanks in advance for all your help...

Before your message, it was 6 months since anyone posted here!

Agreed, the ability to send the file and shut the laptop is nice with XYZware.

I just got my 1.0A two days ago, and am hoping the crickets clear out and we can resurrect this discussion as I am itching to make the jump...

Yes, you have resurrected an old thread here.

I faced this issue after my switch to Repetier.

To answer your questions:

  • I am not sure there is a way to auto connect to the printer but it is not much of a hassle to connect up.

  • You can actually send the file to the machines SD card via USB but it is extremely slow given the way that S3D sends the file to the SD card vs stock XYZware.  What I have done and works the best is to install a wireless SD card in the machine.  Toshiba has one called the Flashair that works great.  I can actually save directly to it from S3D like any other drive.  Then I print from the SD card on the printer.  Works great and is quick and convenient.  Better than the original stock way in my opinion.  I did have to buy a micro SD card to SD card converter.  If you search the threads or my posts you will find more information.

So once you have sent the file wirelessly to the SD card, do you use the menu of the printer itself to start the print (like printing demos on stock?)

duoteknia can you talk to me about what you love with Repetier.

XYZware takes AGES to slice anything remotely large, but my 10 year old son can find something off Thingerverse and have it to the printer with very few steps.

I showed him how to use Slic3r, then save the gcode, then add the header in Notepad++, then base64 encode, then import in to XYZ ware...  and I lost him.

I wasn't planning on paying for S3D... unless I need to.  Does going from Slic3r to printer become easier with custom FW?

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

You can upload the print to the printers SD card and print it from the printer (via the printers menu) however it is much slower that way given how Repetier receives the information as opposed to the stock firmware.  I would not recommend it since it is not very practical.  That is why I suggested the wireless SD card.  It works extremely well.  With that you can just copy the file to the SD card from your computer it quickly copies over and can be printed from the printers menu.  You can do this from any computer you want on your network.

You can of course print directly to the printer from your computer but you would need to leave the computer on.

With Repetier you can use Slic3r, Cura or any other open, free slicer programs.  With Repetier you gain A LOT of control of the printer, the filament you can use and the slicer you can use.  You don't need to mess around with the STL file to make it compatible with XYZ ware.

With using an open source slicer you just want to make sure you are using appropriate starting and ending scripts.  They are pretty straight forward and there are a number of examples out there for the Davinci 1.0/1.0A.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

Thanks!  I think once I get some more confidence with slic3r, I will make the jump.

Up until this point I have failed miserably getting any slic3r prints to work on my 1.0A.  The printer accepts them after I add the da vinci g-code header and encode them, but the bed is always to far away from the extruder so it just shoots out strings.

I'm sure it has something to do with the Z-rise value (which I have seen that most people posting have at 0).  I have been trying increments of 1, but don't want to shoot the bed through the extruder!

I have never manually leveled the bed, as it has worked well in the 4 days I have had it!

I would definitely recommended leveling your bed manually using the method that is stickied in this forum.  That can easily make or break a print and is something you should be fairly comfortable in doing as you will need to do it occasionally.  Get it working well with stock firmware with the stock slicer.  You can always play with the z-offset but this would be much, much easier if you have repetier on your machine.  If you can measure the distance the head is from the bed when "printing" you can at least see how far you are away.

It is probably wise to wait a bit before jumping.  When you get a good feel for your printer and how to control the various settings that really helps.  I am no expert and am still learning but I have learned A LOT in this last year plus about 3D printers.  This forum and others can be a great help.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

Heres the instructions saved from Voltivo a few yrs ago. Give thanks for their hard work.

I upgraded a new DAV1.0A a few weeks ago. Blue side covers, big letters 3DPrinting.
It was never connected to internet via Win7 laptop and never ran until after upgraded.
Havnt printed PLA, in process of E3D upgrade.
Firmware flash is J37. JP1 is older V.
Use the Arduino IDE 1.5.8 as described. I used the newer V. and had probs.
Read and follow per as stated.

Re: New Davinci 1.0a with Repetier

i have repetier 0.91 running fine my win 10 see's it as an arduino duo board so the drivers must be installed.
Yet when   I use the procedure to upload 0.92 after uploading windows says it can not recoginize the port.

anybody gotthis eeprom saved as a bin file.  I'm sure some bright person can figure a way to do this.  Installing would be so much easier.
