Topic: Vertical Mounting of the Filastruder

What is the best way to vertically mount the Filastruder 2.0?  I do not see any holes designed for it, so I figure I have to make my own.  There is, unfortunately, not a great deal of material to grab onto as I am trying to stay away from drilling into the Al frame.

Mounting the filawinder, because of its massive surface area, should not be an issue, but the Filastruder is proving problematic.  Anyone have suggestions?

I'd just drill a couple holes into the aluminum chassis, screw into it from a piece of wood with metal screws, then attach the wood to the wall.

Ended up using sticky velcro, removing one of the long bolts and threading a long zip tie through it and a bolt drilled in a sheet of plywood as a fail safe.  The velcro seems to work well and hopefully it will last, if not, the zip tie will hold it temporarily.

Now to troubleshoot the winder.

Still interested in seeing what others did to mount theirs though, the drilling of the holes seems like something you should do way in the beginning to keep yourself from having to take all the wires out ha ha!

Re: Vertical Mounting of the Filastruder

Hi, this seems an appropriate thread to post that I just uploaded a remix of a vertical hopper to http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1195942 that can take a 1.25L coke bottle.

Hey Davek, do you know if anyone has made one of these for version 2 of the Filastruder?  I tried "Fillistruder Feed Shoot No Support" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:386796) but it didn't fit properly with the version 2 case.  Or for that matter does anyone know of a vertical hopper that works great with the 2.0 case?  Thanks!

Works great for me!  It is what I am using now.  Just long enough for a 2L to fit on the outside. I ended up hot gluing my bottles in as forcing it past the threads caused the ABS to crack.  Make sure to use at least 60% infill or it will get destroyed fast!  I also use Zip Ties instead of the bolts, the design posted is better suited for zip ties IMO

Awesome, thanks for the info.  Is there an easy way to insert the soda bottle upside down without it spilling?  I wish there was a small adapter that would have a piece that could slide out of the way so it wouldn't split any pellets.

I just cut the bottom off the bottle and fill it from the top.. Is this not normal?  Bottoms of bottles make great scoops too!

That's what I do, and what I had in mind with the default hopper. smile

Gotcha, I just heard that some people store unused pellets in bottles with a desiccant and use them when needed. I just figured that is what most people did. Guess not smile

Make sure you rotate the barrel 90 degrees, it does not fit otherwise and rotating it AFTER you have assembled the filastruder is tough! smile

Re: Vertical Mounting of the Filastruder

Yeah OK - so I didn't show in the pic that you cut the bottom of the bottle off so you can fill up the bottle.  ie: The bottle stays in place and you fill it up in-situ.  You don't fill the bottle up and then turn it upside-down and try to attach it.

I also made a lid that just sits on (the bottom of) the bottle - I've added it to the thing at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1195942

Re: Vertical Mounting of the Filastruder

I cannot find a vertical hopper feed shoot that will fit on my Filastruder sad (I have #2013) I printed this one (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1195942) but it will not clear the front of the case. Here is a pic of my setup.http://soliforum.com/i/?BEH6KE4.jpg Any suggestions... I am not good at modding files yet so something to print would be great. I've already run thru 1/2 the ABS that came with it mounted horizontally but don't have the space, so I wall mounted it.

You have to rotate your barrel 90 degrees.. it is not the easiest but it can be done without completely taking it apart.
