Topic: What do you know about decibels/alarms?

If one alarm creates a 130db sound, do two create 260db?

I don't think it does, I've tried this. Two is louder than one, but not twice as loud.

My smart phone has a dB Meter app but won't go this loud. I think anything over 130 dB gets into the painful level and may be illegal (think: electronic self defense weapon).

Any sonic gurus here?

How would you make a truly painful or debilitating low-voltage (<24VDC) focused sonic device that beats the 130dB "personal alarms" out there now?

Decibels are on a logarithmic scale, so two sources of 130dB would be 133dB.

Funny, Tim, I just found a web site that showed me that. Thanks.

How about a modeler that shows the effect of shaping the sound wave with a tube or horn/funnel?
