Topic: flash Da Vici 1.0

I am thinking about buying the xyzprinting Da Vinci 1.0 3D printer.  When I do I would like to flash the printers firmware so that I can use the printer on Linux.   But I am not sure if I should get the printer any more because I saw that XYZPrinting changed out their Da Vici 1.0's mother board to use the Da Vici 1.0A or something.  I heard that if you get a Da Vinci 1.0A board that you will brick your printer if you try to flash it.  Have people found a way to get around this? Should I buy this printer or go with something else?

Re: flash Da Vici 1.0

I have the 1.0A and flashed to Repetier  I am not sure if they updated the board or not after mine.  In any case it should be doable to flash the printer.  Many in the early days thought they bricked their printers but I think in at least some cases they just didn't follow the directions.  There are a number of threads where folks were able to get things working again.  This was not specific to the 1.0A though.

The only thing you need to be aware of is if you flash the 1.0A you cannot go back to stock firmware.

Oh I have no plans on going back to stock once it has been done.  I just don't want to buy a $500 machine and find out that I either can not flash it or will brick it if I try.

I just bought a da Vinci 1.0a and would like to flash it, but have been wary since my printer has 3F10A serial number. Does your flashed printer's serial number start with those number?

My 1.0A does start with 3F10A.  Have repetier and it works great.

Thanks for replying so quickly!
Do you remember what firmware you had before flashing?
And what instructions did you follow?
Thanks in advance

I had 1.0.3 before I upgraded but I am not sure that it matters since you are essentially erasing the firmware.  I understand your apprehension.  I felt the same.  I created this thread.  It should contain and direct you to the process and tweaks you can do:
