Topic: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Hey guys, it's been a while!

I dug my printer out to get it back running after a while, I got it going but clogged right away.  During reassembly I snapped the brass tube off buried in the peek insulator.  I'm looking for parts, I need at a minimum the peek and brass tube, but if someone has a full original assembly with the (newer rectangular) heat core, thermistor, heating element, nozzle, brass tube and peek I would be a buyer, even the fiberglass.  PM me a price if you have one.  SD website shows them out of stock on basically everything having to do with SD2.  If you have more than one let me know I might like to have a spare.

I know everyone has moved on from the stock stuff but
A) I don't have a working printer to print the replacement items to mount it, and
B) I don't want to go through the power supply and firmware and all that for the little bit of printing that I need to do.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Welcome Back!  Happy New Year!

I don't have a spare, but have you considered a V6Lite?  The extruder brackets are available from Filastruder as well for $5.00

Or if you just need a few parts run; PM me!

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I'd recommend a V6lite + MK5 Lawsy extruder. I do sell both, as IronMan mentioned.

I say that after going through half a dozen PEEK based SD hotends before using my first E3D. Still using that one to this day.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I don't have to do firmware or power supply update with this solution?  I think I have the MK5 already on mine but I'll order another one just to have a backup for that price.

Thanks!   I might be around a little bit more to get up and running again, I have a couple new projects in mind that I've been putting off, and some family members asking for some parts.  Glad to hear from you two again.

Thanks, Happy New Year to you too!  I'm not "back", just visiting.  But I'm still top 10 in post count after all these year I see.  haha   All that posting without contributing much of any consequence.   smile

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

You do need to do a firmware update, but the stock power supply is fine.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

So going from stock:
Firmware update
Buy V6 lite
Buy MK5

Do I need the E3D fan and fan mount or is that optional.  (If yes what else is required for this?)
Sorry for all the questions, I would search but I'm going into a meeting in a few minutes for an hour or two and I want to order today.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Fan and fan mount are included with the Lite6.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Okay I'll place the order and cross my fingers that I can figure out the updating necessary and my SD2 cooperates.  Thanks for the help!

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I don't think I made the right decision here.  I have the E3D lite V6 now and assembled it, but I don't think I have the knowledge or the patience to wire it to the motherboard and upgrade the firmware.  The searches I have done have me more lost and confused than I was before.  Who has a good step by step link to show me how to go from bone stock early model SD2 to a working printer again?

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I think I'm back to my original question.  Who has spare stock parts that I can buy?

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Question 1) You need to determine which board you have. Provided you have a serial #0091, that should be a Sang. Wardjr is our resident expert on that board...try shooting him a PM.

Question 2) I have original parts I would be willing to part with. I highly recommend sticking it out with the E3D, though. It may seem like a headache and a pain at first, but you will eventually kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Best modification ever!

Wiring the board is very simple. Use the wires and plug supplied with your E3D for the thermistor and plug in into the pins your old thermistor was in. As for the heater wires, you can cannibalize the old plug that runs into the board. Cut the wires back about 6 inches, then splice the wires, and seal the splice with heatshrink.
Polarity is not an issue for either thermistor or heater

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

If you're in a pinch and need to get up and running, you can put the original SD thermistor in the M3 hole in the lite6 with Kapton tape while you learn about firmware flashing.

Yep, and I am willing to step you through flashing your (Guessing) Sanguinololu Rev 1.3a???  It should be silk screened right on the board.  If that's the one you have then easy peasy wink

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I'll get it connected as described by Azerate and reach out to you wardjr.  The only other question I have is about the additional fan, where does that connect on my board.  I'll confirm the board as well.  I have the dexterity of a gorilla with mittens which is why I've never taken up electronics.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

The extra fan can be spliced in parallel with the extruded stepper fan.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Thanks all, I'll take another run at it this weekend.  Sanguinololu Rev 1.3a is correct.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I too am looking for a replacement hot end for my solidoodle workbench. Or at least a new thermistor and tape to hold it in place.  Can anyone help?

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I just replaced a thermistor with this one:

Here is a 5 pack:

Just search this on ebay:
NTC Thermistor Cable

You don't need the cable, but I think it makes it easier if it is already connected to a wire.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Okay I think I have everything connected correctly, however the extra fan doesn't come on when I power up.  I spliced into the extruder stepper fan so it should turn on right when I power up the SD2, correct?  It does not, but the stepper fan does.

Either way, wardjr I'm ready for your magic.  I'll send you a PM.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

Check polarity on that fan before you burn it out.

Re: Looking for SD2 original hotend parts

I went red to red and black to black, and I tried it the other way as well.  I think it's already gone.
